Posted December 29, 200420 yr comment_106490 I have a 73 with SU carbs, and when I got the car, it has a make shift aircleaner, (see my gallery for a picture) and I bought a stock air cleaner box off of ebay, and as some holes were probably plugged to make this make shift setup work, I need help with knowing what on the air cleaner goes to what... I have attached a diagram. Right now my setup has a plain metal backplate with a hole for the crankcase hose, and two holes for the front and rear carb hoses. There is no air pump hose, and definitely not the hose at the bottom of my diagram. Any help is always appriciated!aircleaner.bmp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14472-air-cleaner-question/ Share on other sites
December 29, 200420 yr Author comment_106492 Also, look at this photo of my current setup, is this vacuum hose supposed to be connected like this? what should it be connected to? thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14472-air-cleaner-question/#findComment-106492 Share on other sites
December 29, 200420 yr comment_106495 The vacume port the arrow points to is where the vacume advance from the dist is supposed to connect. If you have a vacume advance , it MUST work form carb vacume otherwise it goes to full advance when the engine is started and is inoperative. You mentioned that you have a stock air cleaner and that the Z is a '73 . The air cleaner that you want is from a '72 the stock '73Z had flat top carbs and were completely different both the carbs and the air box were . December 30, 200420 yr Author comment_106599 so what about my diagram? it doesn't look to me like my aircleaner box that i bought for my car off of ebay has all of the ports my book shows for a 73 air cleaner, but more than the ones for a an "early aircleaner", were there some in between... and why would that vacuum port be bypassed? I should probably get in touch with the mechanic who owned this car before I did...he probably did all of these mods...notioce in the picture that the thermostat housing is missing some wire connections that appearantly are supposed to connect to the EGR valve (or so I was informed by the guy at MSA).... December 30, 200420 yr comment_106612 Your diagram looks like the a/c for a 72 240Z, not a 73. What do you need to know (specifically) about the diagram? December 30, 200420 yr comment_106672 The small diameter hose goes to the "Flow Guide Valve" which is mounted on the inner fender just below the coil. The fitting you have labelled "to air pump??" does go to the air pump. Does your car still have a air pump? If not, plug it. I used a heater hose cap (~3/4").The little hose in question goes the the gas tank vent system. The connection is located below the ignition coil on the fender, about the height of the bottom of the air cleaner Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14472-air-cleaner-question/#findComment-106673 Share on other sites
