Removing Gas Tank

ok i did a search and i just got people that already removed them. well i read the datsun automotive book not much help their. i got the bolts off which was a pain. i got that pentrating oil that i read about. and i can say wow that stuff works. the only problem is how u get the filler hose off (big tube that puts the gas in the tank when u fill up) {do u take off the bottom of the filler hose or unscrew from the top of the tube}and the hose on the far right side i think its called a vent hose(how do help get teh rubber slide off the metal). since im taking the tank down i notice that the a couple of the hoses need to be replaced so im on that(vent tube, return nozzle). its just um they are coming off that easy. some hoses are in good shape so i dont want to mess them up. any tips of how the heck u got these things off. any help would be greatly appricated. the hoses are not bad they are about 5 years old thats what the owner said but the tips of them are cracked. should i just replace the hole thing or get a thing to get the tubes longer?

If the edges are cracked, I would go ahead and replace them. I replaced all of the lines coming out of the tank and vapour tank by buying all the items needed thru NAPA auto parts. Just make sure you get hoses that are rated for fuel/oil. I think I had spent about 30 bucks on the supplies. The bigger hose that has the 180 degree bend in it was the tough one. But it is doable without spending 100 bucks on one hose!!! There is a good write up around on how to do it. If anyone has the link please pass it on. I will try and find it again and post it. Hope this helps some.

let me get some pics. thats when i just took it out i have done some elbow work on so its pretty clean right now. im just working how to replace hoses. the tank came out pretty easy even though i friend ditched me in the process. over all it was not bad. i think the biggest pain was getting the hoses off but with a couple bad words :lick: and some yanking it came off. while cleaning it up i put duck tape over the hoses conectors so that dirt would not get in the tank. inside was clean im was happy about that. it was time to clean 30+ year crap off the tank. i tell u what not going cheap on them wire bruskes helps out alot and having all the right tools. anyway using the duck tape i dont call that redneck i call it cajun style LOL. after i get it all nice and pretty ill get a pic up. srry for the bad quality its a camera phone

I'll tell you what I give mad props to anyone able to completely remove that large hose that had more benz in it than a Mercedes lot in one piece LOL. I literaly had to cut mine out in sections..LOL...and I damn sure knew I wasn't going to get a regular fuel line to make those kinda bends without getting a kink in it somewhere. So I lined all my cut sections of hose up and measured them and then took a trip down to West Marine and bought fuel line and half a dozen or so 90° plastic hose barbs :devious:, being of marine grade they're resistant to gasoline. I dunno about you other folks but that sure made my life alot easier putting a new hose back in :D
