Stainless Steel Replacement Fastners

I am looking at buying a complete set of Stainless Steel Replacement fastners for my Z restoration project. They are offered by Zcarcreations on ebay as individual sets: body, engine, interior etc... I have been in direct contact and they do offer a complete set for the car. Has anyone used their products? What are the pros and cons of using replacement fastners? :ermm: JLP

I would be interested in their price for the complete car kit. I have been looking to buy their interior kit for a while now. To me, I can work a lot faster just tossing nuts and bolts into a bin rather than into labled ziplock bags.

The only con that keeps lingering in the back of my mind is the fact that no matter how new and shiny the new bolts are, the metal that they are going into or holding together is still the same 30 year old steel.

Still worth the extra peace of mind to me. :cheeky:

This has just made me an incredibly happy person. I'm still in tear-down and have saved all the bolts that haven't broken....which means I have about a handful. LIFE IS GOOD thank you world for loving Datsuns as much as I do. Anyone have a quote for a complete car set?

I believe they priced a complete, engine, body & interior set for $400. They have them broken down into a number of packages, well labeled as to where they go. I have requested more information such as does this include the gas tank strap bolts etc... I have also requested that they resend me the responses to my past emails (which included their quote for a complete set). :mad: I lost all of this information when my computer crashed a couple of weeks ago. Last time I inquired (several years ago) I was told that the bolt-head sizes on some of these stainlesss steel bolts will be different from those of the original bolts used by Nissan. This may not matter to some people, but it might to others.

Nissan used "JIS" Metric Fasteners in many (if not most) areas of the cars. An example is 8mm X 1.25 bolts in JIS require a 12mm wrench, a standard 8mm X 1.25 bolt requires a 13mm wrench.

Thats another question I will have to ask. I have noticed this in the past, as a difference between German and Japanese cars. What would be a 13mm on a Mercedes will be a 12mm head on the Datsun. I will find out if they also match head sizes for the restoration. It would matter to me! :ermm: JLP

I believe the head sizes differ from the OEM in some cases. I bought the front, rear & door kits when my Z was repainted. The shop mentioned the sizing difference to me. They look good to me & I am happy with the final product.

Until a couple years ago I was like you. Knew of the difference, but didin't know why. Then I started contacting Hardware companies to source replacement bolts and spoke to a salesperson at Lawson Products ( www.lawsonproducts.com ) who explained that from the information he had, he thought that the "JIS" meant "Japan Industrial Standard".

I just received a reply to the questions brought forward by this thread. The bolts are not "JIS" (Japanese Industrial Standard) so as suggested in past post the heads of the bolts run larger. What would be a 10mm on the Datsun will be 11mm etc... with this replacement bolt package. :ermm:
