Hey all... question: would you take this rust bucket and refurbish it if you had the money to spend on the stuff needed to repair it, over a period of time of course.... :nervous:

I realize its in bad shape, but hey, no reason to let it go to the crusher... right??

It could be fixed, but it would be cheaper in the long run to start with a car in better condition.

What is the point of the project?

The end result (a Nice 240Z)? or the long journey to get it there (Lots of effort, time and money)?

The answer to that question will help you decide what is best for you.

Boy would it be a long and Expensive project..... I just hate to see another one bite the dust, so to speak....

The number on the door jamb dosen't look to me to make it anything special....

Some cars are destined to be used as parts cars to save other cars. This one might be in that catagory. The VIN doesn't seem special to me either.

Have you driven this car?

If it doesn't run, then you will have a hard, and expensive trial to get it back on the road. The body looks more intact than my car was when I started, but the pictures don't show the real critical areas of the car. Those are the frame rails, floor boards, and spare tire well.

I have spent so much money on parts that I have actually stopped counting. I have done all the work myself (except the machine shop stuff) and after more than 2 years it still doesn't run. (I may be half way done...)

If you are looking for a "project" that will take a long time, and don't care how long that time is, then perhaps... But if you just want to spruce one up and get it back on the road, this one will be expensive.

On the other hand, for those of us who don't live in the desert, 240Zs are rare, and difficult to obtain. If there are any on the road here in Indy, I haven't seen them. You will run across a 300ZX now and then, and perhaps a 280Z or 280ZX once in a really great while. But the early cars just aren't as common here has they are in... other places.

Think of what you have pictured as a strangely shaped mobile shelf holding some parts, and find a car to put them on. That mobile shelving unit holds a lot of latent frustration in it that is just under the paint and undercoating, lift the parts off and leave the frustration.

Save it for parts. You could learn a lot from rebuilding, but it would be costly. Kind of looks like mine, well mine's not quite that far gone. LOL.

The floors are gone as well as under the battery tray. The front end needs a rebuild, And the heater cores busted. But for what i paid for it i cant complain.

Dont Crush it. Somebody can use parts off it. Where are you from? If you decide to get rid of it let me know ill hawl it off for you.

You'd need to post a few more pics of the problem ares, like floors, battery tray area, etc. The only rust i can see is the rear wheel arech and bottom of the doors (but i am looking at the pics on a TV). The hatch looks like its from a different car.

Some cars rust badly in one or 2 areas, and are fine in others. My car has a rusted out wheel arch, and doglegs, but the floors are completly rust free.

Sure it looks very dirty and untidy, but you cant judge a book by its cover. Get in ther and rip up the carpets and sound deadening.
