Well, this is now the second time I have posted this same question. Except this time I am using a different trans. Ok here it is:

Car: 72 240z

engine: N42 L28

tranny: 280Z 5 speed.

I had trouble getting the clutch to engage for a while now, had to have the rod from the slave cylinder fully extended for the clutch to just barely engage. There are 3, maybe more sizes of throwout bearing collars, I have 3 and dont know which one to use to avoid this problem, i know one time putting in a 5 speed i used the longest one, and found it to be too long, and couldnt get the tranny onto the engine. Should I be using a different slave cylinder as well?? I am still using the one that came with my 4 speed, with an adjustable length rod. Here's the choices of throwout collars.

The easiest method is to use the 280Z fork, throwout bearing, slave cylinder and a 280Z clutch. Then all you have to do is adjust the rod on the master cylinder. BTW you can use your 240Z master if it is good.

I would keep the adjustable slave and fork just because it's nice to have the adjustment. The fork won't matter as long as the fork with the hole in the end is used with the adjustable slave. Then you just need the right throwout for the pressure plate.

The key here is that the throwout collar MUST match the pp. None of the other stuff will matter in your case, since it sounds like you have the fork with the hole and the manually adjustable pin. Here's the info for that: http://www.zparts.com/zptech/articles/trans_swap%20parts/4tobear_specs1.html

If you don't care to adjust your clutch, then you can do as Curtis says and use the self adjusting slave pin and fork with no hole.
