Is there any way I could get more performance out of my EFI without running something like Megasquirt??? In order to get the kind of power Im wanting (170-180 rwhp), I have been told I can't without dumping loads of money into a new injection system... and replacing the restrictive stock intake manifold...

Any ideas?

thanks.

SU Carbs are still lingering in my mind....

The basic problem is that the Z (or 280Z, which has e.f.i.) wasn't really a sports car. It was sold as a "luxury sporty-type car." So the engine wasn't designed to have that much power; it was even supposed to have GOOD gas mileage, which also means no horsepower.

I'm going to use the original ECU combined with a tuned header, 2.5" exhaust, performance cam, adjustable cam sprocket, open airfilter and 60mm throttle body. We'll se how it works in a few months..

I must disagree with you on that Tomohawk. I think the luxury Z started in 79 with the ZX. The 77 280Z had more HP than any of the 1 gens.

To me there is nothing luxury about any of our early Z cars. They are bare bones sports cars for the masses. A/C is about as luxurious as it got.

I forgot whre I saw it, but I saw a scanned image of an original brochure saying that the 280Z was a 'luxury car.' I'll go look around for you.

The ZX was definitely luxury with the standard leather seats, a/c, cruise control, etc. For me "cruise control" means hooking my throttle foot in the fold of the carpet, which gives me 63-65 MPH on the highway LOL

thx

I agree that it is not luxury, I would say that the only thing luxury about it at the time would have been the E.F.I., other than that?? like Zrush said, "bare bones sports car"
