Hi all,

I'm seeking the help of a volunteer (or volunteers) for the Classifieds portion of this website.

The manager of this area will be responsible for managing the classified module, all content, and overall theme.... These duties will involve searching Ebay for ads we can showcase, helping others post ads, creating new categories, and basic support of the classifieds system.

If you are interested, please reply to this thread or send me a Private Message (PM) if you want to get ahold of me privately.

Thanks!!!

Mike, I'm not sure I am the person for the job. You might have to guide me through things the first couple of times. I am always going through the ebay Datsun 240Z ads, almost daily. I also have the time when I am at the Fire Station to do some work. The only problem would be that I go to my house in Tenn. about 8 weeks a year and do not, at this time have internet access there. I try to be active in any organization I get involved with. Let me know if you don't find a better volunteer for the job.JLP :nervous:

I don't think it is a good idea to have someone searching eBay for auctions to list on this site. It only fosters competition and drives prices up, which benefits only the seller. If people want to play the eBay game, they should do their own research. By posting an auction here, is the "club" confirming (guarenteeing) that the item is what it is claimed to be? In the condition it is claimed to be? Standing behind the auction protecting the buyer from dishonest transactions?

I feel it's best to stick to posting prvate party "classified ads" and stay out of eBay.

:ermm: I'm new to the site, you can all work out the details and I will try and help. :nervous:

I think Mike was thinking about posting references to Ebay auction for stuff we could really use or hard to find/rare items. I agree putting references for common things would use up valuable website resources or create unfair competition.

Still not a good idea IMO

I think it's a great idea to put ads from Ebay in our section. This will enable us to discuss the auction outside of ebay as well as give opinions about the item for sale. What better place to have discussions than a dedicated classic Z site like ours?

I have also seen times when people ask questions about cars/parts for sale on Ebay and our members have given good advice about the purchase.

Anyway, I'm not asking for opinions about the classifieds area. I am actually asking for a volunteer (or two) to help keep it going in the right direction. Things need to be done such as approvals, update reminders, screen ads for commercial posters, etc.

Most of us (regulars) can participate by helping others find, and use, the classified areas as well as post ads found on other websites (even Ebay). My goal with a FREE classifieds area is to help keep the good cars and parts going to good homes. If an ad here helps a 1971 240z find a good home to a true fanatic (who more than likely browses this site) then I've accomplished this goal. I'd rather see it go to someone searching for a classic rather than someone who needs a cheap car to beat up.

It's all about saving the species. :)

Mike, I'd be glad to help out. I regularly check on ebay hoping that I will come across a Z I can purchase once I get my license. Plus I have 1 or 2 hours a day of free time that I could commit to this site.

PM me if interested, thanks

Justin

Mike, just a quick suggestion for the classifieds -- a spot to list the town/city, state/province and country where the car or part is listed. I see there is a 260Z 2+2 list in WA. For me that means Washington State, but for others it might indicate Western Australia. When I opened the listing I did see the car had Wash. St. plates, as well as a phone area code for Eastern Washington. A country location on the main listing page would at least let you know whether the car/part was even in the same country as the ad reader. That doesn't mean we won't look at all the ads, whether U.S., Canada, Oz, Japan, UK or elsewhere, just that buying it might be in the realm of possibilities.

Mike-

That's a god Idea, but you know it'll be difficult to not let things get out of hand, not that things are going to. Whatever auctions or parts that are posted may or may not attract people that aren't honestly interested in the acedemic value of the thing. But as some have already done, to point out incredible finds or fantastic (as in fantasy) claims about cars for auction (the Zcar on ?eBay forum).
