I was in the process of renewing my throttle linkage grommet that goes into the firewall when I pulled the nylon ball off to get the grommet on (somehow I don't think I shoulda done this) now I can't get the nylon ball back on to the shaft that runs through the fire to stay. I tried hot glue (held for 2 minutes :mad: ) tried super glue (held for 5 minutes ). Is there something else that you guys use to PERMANTLY attach the ball to the shaft??

Normally this wouldn't be so bad except doing it in a monsoon (It never rains in So.Cal....yeah right!) is kinda gettin' old!

Doesn't the ball thread onto the rod?

I had thought that too but, the shaft doesn't have any threads, notches or anything. The shaft just slips into the ball (about 1/4-3/8") I wonder how they were attached in the factory??

Well, I had to take one of the balls off of the linkage piece when I replaced the bellows shaped grommet on my linkage, and I don't recall specificly how it came off, but I thought that I unscrewed one end or the other.

Anybody else remember how they replaced theirs????

I was fairly certain they unscrewed, but I will have to go look tomorrow.

I replaced the throttle rod boot you are talking about a few months ago. I don't recall having any trouble except needing to be double jointed and gifted with magic powers to get it back on the pedal ball under the dash.

My throttle has been feeling somewhat sticky lately

Maybe one end is threaded and the other end is not intended to be removed? I'll have to look. From a production standpoint it would seem like a waste to thread both ends since only one end needs to be removed.

I think Andrew has it wired. The inside end screws on and has a lock nut and the end in the engine compartment is molded on. Can't imagine how much force you had to apply to bust that cup off. Anyway, ZTherapy can probably rustle you up a reasonably priced replacement from the "spares locker"........... Call me if you're interested.

When replacing the throttle linkage boot, the ball located in the passenger compartment is threaded. The ball on the engine compartment side is permanetly on the linkage rod.

Da Flash, You might concider this method....position the socket assembly on the rod correctly and them with a 1/32" drill bit, (be sure you are centered on the assy) drill through the plastic socket assy, through the steel rod and out the other side. Now install a 1/32" roll pin. If you are well centered you should wind up with a fixed and reliable part again. This is a one shot deal...so be accurite when drilling. Also, there are manufactures that make all sorts of ball and socket parts that can be used to fabricate an entirely new custom part to replace the F'd up old part. Do a little website surfing.

This is a little basic , but , wouldent a small ammont of JBWeld hold if the parts were cleaned well first. I have used this stuff to repair a prop on a ski boat after hitting a rock and it held for the trip. Worth a try.

That's what I thought. I knew that I had to remove the rod assembly from the gas pedal (couldn't get the grommet on from the engine bay) to complete the replacement of the grommet.

Thanks for the information guys!! As for how much pressure it took to get the molded ball off well.... you'd be surprised how easy it was once I apllied myself !! I'll chock this one up to learning experience. For what it's worth the JB weld seems to be holding up nicely but, I'll give ZTherapy a call for a permenant replacement.
