Posted January 12, 200520 yr comment_108425 Can someone with the CD Microfiche do me a favor and look up a part number. I recently ordered a grommet and I fear I received the wrong one. I need the part number for the rubber grommet that goes around the engine bay wireing harness. The grommet sits in the firewall below the battery tray.Thanks. January 12, 200520 yr comment_108444 I've looked through my parts manual and couldn't find any mention of it at all. Not in the body or the electrical sections. If it ends up the wrong one I might have one from a stripped out parts car. I'd need the diameter to match it up. There's a great hardware store a few miles from my house that carries all those little things like rubber grommets in sizes up to 3 inches in diameter. You might want to check in your area too. Look in the electrical section if you can't find it in the hardware area. Good luck. January 12, 200520 yr Author comment_108450 Thanks guys,The part I got was 24250-E4100. And it is just a plain looking grommet. The old one that I had has a "sleeve extension" almost like a turtle neck looking extension coming from the grommet.Ed Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14637-part-for-a-grommet/#findComment-108450 Share on other sites
January 12, 200520 yr comment_108465 Like many parts on 72's; it has probably been superceded to another grommet that fits the hole in the firewall but is not identical to the original.Ed, Do you have a good picture of the one you got? For reference. The grommet on my car has seen better days. January 13, 200520 yr Author comment_108540 Here go some pictures. The first one is the original still on the wireing harness. I don't want to damage it by trying to remove it in case I can't find a replacement. The second picture is what they sent me. It matches the grommet that goes inside the car on the right rear corner, by the tail light. January 13, 200520 yr comment_108542 Ed. Part 24250-e4100 Is The Correct Part #. The Part Has Changed In Looks.Sometimes You'll Get Lucky And Get The Old Style. I've Got Some Good UsedOnes In Stock.i Gave You The Part # 24250-n4500 Because It's Closer To The Original One.the Inside Diameter Is Slightly Larger.but It Works And LooksStock.it Seals Up Better If You Use A Thicker Wire Wrap On The Harness. January 13, 200520 yr comment_108543 Related question:Is the hole in the firewall the same diameter for a late 280Z as it is for an early 240Z (for the main wire harness coming through low near the battery)? The reason I ask is that on my 240Z restoration, that area has been previously "restored" (read: hacked), so I don't trust the hole diameter, and I have a decent battery tray and firewall section from a 280Z to replace it with. But I haven't researched yet what might be different....Thanks. January 13, 200520 yr comment_108545 No. the hole diameter is not the same.the 280z is larger.but if your thinking of useing a 280z fire wall chunk it does'nt matter.sometimes its just easier to go to the local hardware store and match something up.JZM Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14637-part-for-a-grommet/#findComment-108545 Share on other sites

So thanks for the info, and I'll deal with the different size when I get to it.... January 13, 200520 yr comment_108587 Here go some pictures. The first one is the original still on the wireing harness. It matches the grommet that goes inside the car on the right rear corner, by the tail light. Thanks for the pics. Wow, Significant differences. Seems like the "new" one would allow a lot of air through the firewall. Let us know how you eventually address the grommet issue. February 22, 200520 yr comment_113739 I think the new one as shown in the pics is more for protection of the wiring harness as it passes over the metal of the body. The old one is for sealing purposes.I dont believe they are interchangable. The newer one is as seen in the rear hatch area (remove your inner plastic trim panels).FWIWJoseph Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14637-part-for-a-grommet/#findComment-113739 Share on other sites
