What does a Holden sound like? Helpo out your poor Yankee buddies.

I just did a MSA header, 2 1/4 all the way back, with a 'test pipe' for the cat and a 2 1/4 staright-thru Bosal SS with twin 3" tips. It is quite loud, but has a great note. People say it sounds very much like a V-8. It definitely has a very nice rumble. I think it sounds like a beautifully running straight-6!...and I think a straight 6--whoever makes it, is the best sounding engine in the world...Quite a bit of resonance down in the 2-3 range, which I am told can be significantly reduced by installing a 'bullet' style muffler ahead of the main muffler. Up around 4 and beyond, it has this lovely staccatto whine. Doesn't sound like a squid at all.

Hey Alfadog,

I know what a holden sounds like! - boring!;-) . My zed sounds almost like that until you give it some curry. After about 3000rpm it emits this awsome sound. It has stock headers -(which I would like to replace with HPC coated items). I think the pipes all the way back to the muffler are also stock - about 2 1/4 - 21/2 inches in dia. Then we get to the muffler which is a 'Perry' with one tip. Thankyou Mr Perry! I dont know where you would find one - but it sounds magic!

Some of the new 'canon' mufflers we get here for imports would look pretty sound & cool on a zed - if you just want to change the sound & maybe improve performance a little then you should be able to swap the muffler for around $250-500. Make sure you keep the original!

good luck!

Luke
