Posted January 22, 200520 yr comment_109788 I am going to look at a 71 240Z tomorrow and from the pictures I have received the engine bay has quite a bit of undercoating along the fire wall the battery tray and along some of the side fenders and frame rails is that normal it is a Florida car!!!! Is that something the dealer does it sure looks ugly!!!! I will making almost a five hour ride each way to look at the car any tips what to look for besides the obvious !!!! January 22, 200520 yr comment_109790 if the undercoating looks original have a look. if it's recent stay away. i feel recent undercoat is to hide rust.unless you have x-ray vision i wouldn't trust fresh undercoat.imo Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14735-undercoating/#findComment-109790 Share on other sites
January 22, 200520 yr comment_109795 It may be Ziebart Anti-Rust Protection coating. That stuff looks very similar to undercoating.Only way to tell is examine the car in person. If it is, it was probably applied long ago.BTW, at least here in CA, it's not normal to apply undercoating in the engine bay, or on the firewall, or around the battery tray. January 23, 200520 yr comment_109829 John,Ziebart is fairly common and I have seen it inside engine bays frequently. Looks horrible. It washes off with mineral spirits, though. Where on earth are you driving five hours to see a Z in Florida? January 23, 200520 yr comment_109839 Seems to me that a member was looking at a car in Fl recently that had that stuff in the engine bay . They shot it in to cover the rust in the batt area and the area below it . Look vary closely . Personally I would pass from the start. to large of a red flagg for me/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14735-undercoating/#findComment-109839 Share on other sites
