there are some draw-backs:

The front caps are unmodified because the bearing sticks out, and since the spare has a flat cap attached to it, it may need to be removed to put the spare on the front.

I was originally going to have those caps machined from thicker material, and have the logo laser-engraved-maybe even a hologram?

I just have to figure out how to polish those spokes. I've been sanding them when I polish the rims, and they still have the machining grooves!

You should have started with 100, the grooves in those wheels are deeep!

With 400, you will be there untill the battery cables you use on your RC stuf quit conducting electricity!

You're funny Will. That's why I'm going to kill you last...LOL (j/k- I saw "Commando" last night.) I thought 100-grit would make the grooves deeper...

After furcan (hurricane) Ernesto leaves, I'll try it.

Just don't make me remind you that you said that so you can tell me you lied...:stupid:

It'll take the top off the grooves, not make the bottom deeper!-sand across the grooves for the fastest removal

I have a whole set of sanding papers used to take scratches out of plastic airplane windshields and cheap sunglasses. It goes up to 20,000 grit. I keep a wheel of 36 grit on one sander

Blowing on the part would do more than 20k grit, notebook paper is in the neighborhood of 2000 grit if I rememeber correcly-I don't think you will need finer than 800 on aluminum wheels.

Will

correct. 20,000 grit is just a cloth with a rubbery feel, like a fingernail polishing stick. But it's impressive to show the stuff to people!

I used 800 on the valve covers, with some extra-fine steel wool & polish creme.

I would chuck them in the lathe and take the tops off in a hurry, that would leave a smooth surface that you could use that 20k paper on, but Aluminum would clog it up in the first spin.
