Posted January 31, 200520 yr comment_110824 Here's one that retains the function of the horn. Great theft deterrent! A friend of mine just put one on his Datsun - not a Z, maybe a 510 I'm not sure. But it should fit a Z with the proper aftermarket wheel hub. http://nar-spec.com/12630/23222.htmlHere are the pics of my friend's install: Column with the wheel off- http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/data/500/102Mwheel-off-med.jpgBack of wheel- http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/data/500/102Mback-of-wheel-med.jpgStacked height (about 3/4")- http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/data/500/102Mstack-height-med.jpg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14824-quick-release-steering-wheel-hub/ Share on other sites
January 31, 200520 yr comment_110832 Nice looking unit! Good theft deturant for sure. Unfortunetly, it still won't stop the tilt flatbed truck with a hook/winch senerio! January 31, 200520 yr comment_110837 I have the Grant system on mine & it works great. About 1/2 the price.I don't really like the phrase "quick-release" when related to your steering wheel, tho. February 1, 200520 yr Author comment_110879 Does it allow for the use of the horn? That was the big plus with this one I posted. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14824-quick-release-steering-wheel-hub/#findComment-110879 Share on other sites
February 1, 200520 yr comment_110884 Of course. I wouldn't have considered it unless the horn worked. You can get a ticket if you can't toot the horn.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14824-quick-release-steering-wheel-hub/#findComment-110884 Share on other sites
February 1, 200520 yr comment_110892 I don't really like the phrase "quick-release" when related to your steering wheel, tho. Why?"Quick Release" doesn't equate to "Random-Release". F1, Champcar, IRL, NAPCAR and a lot of other racer cars used quick-release Steering wheel hubs and don't have problems with them. February 1, 200520 yr comment_110903 The layperson might think that a detachable steering wheel might mean that it might come off any time. They should go look at it and see just how "easy" it is to get it off: first take the key out of the ignition, then find the wheel lock key. Put it in & turn to unlock. Then press the release lever & turn the wheen CCW. Then pull off.For the same reasons that the racecar release comes off so easily is why they are all "Not for street use."I've never seen anybody carrying a steering wheel at any car show tho. February 1, 200520 yr comment_110910 Nobody here has driven with a vise-grip on steering shaft? Jed Clampet yes, but when moving around boneyard dogs it works. Sorry, but horn doesn't work that way though.
