Posted February 4, 200520 yr comment_111281 The MSD 6AL ignition is installed, the car runs like a champ and all necessary grounds are connected. When the car is running and you touch the coil you get shocked. The wire from the distributor to the coil is connected tight. The coil is a Crane Fireball PS-40. Could the coil be going bad? Don't know if it's always been this way because I've never touched the coil when the car was running. Any ideas? February 4, 200520 yr comment_111300 In my experience, I'd say there is a good chance the coil WIRE is bad. I've had that problem with an occasional spark plug wire in the past. Replaced the wire and the problem went away (everytime). Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14862-coil-shock/#findComment-111300 Share on other sites
February 5, 200520 yr comment_111364 Since you live where there is plenty of salty air and if the coil is not brand new you might have a slight coating of salt and moisture on the coil. Give the coil a good bath with hot soapy water and dry it good, personally I avoid touching things like that while they are running, hate shocks!
