Posted February 5, 200520 yr comment_111469 1970-240, I bought it from a guy that had it in his garage for 4 years. It cranked up and ran for a short time while I was there and I told him to shut it down. Trailered it home turn the key and got nothing but a click sound from a relay on the passenger side. I am not sure what the relay is and the books/ microfich are not to clear. I know I have a lot of work to do but first I need it to turn over. Any help will help........ February 6, 200520 yr comment_111484 if you have a manual or if you read through the threads you can do a direct start from the battery to see if the starter solinoid is bad, check your battery and connections as well, I had the same issue and it was the starter , good luck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14886-wont-start-please-help/#findComment-111484 Share on other sites
February 6, 200520 yr comment_111487 Have you tried cleaning the battery cables or using a different battery? If the car has been sitting for 4 years, these would be my first steps. February 7, 200520 yr comment_111645 Sounds like a discharged battery to start with. The clicking is most likely just the relay and or the starter solinoid , due to the low batt. If it were me I would start by checking the fluids . If the oil hasent been changed and new , change it and the filter. Replace the fuel filter , up by the front of the engine. Look at the brake fluid and if it is not clear change it and bleed the systime . While doing this take a good look at the rubber brake lines that are at each wheel and change if AT ALL SUSPECT. Do this before bleeding the systime. Same thing with the clutch systime. Brake fluid will collect moisture and will rust out the cylinders. There are a couple of books that you will find to be vary helpful. How to restore your Datsun Z-car , by Wick Humble it's a Fisher Books . I found mine at Amazon , a shop manual from Nissan is vary good and can be found on Ebay . The CLYMER shop manual that spacificly is for the years 1970-1979 is also pritty good , it is out of print but can be found on e bay for around $10.00. There are others but they are more specific, these are good for general information for dealing with the removal and repair of most subsystems like engines , suspention and brakes and such. February 7, 200520 yr comment_111699 Thanks for the help, it is turning over now but the battery is week. I think the starter is going and locked up. I am charging as I type.I invested in a charger that also has enough power to start my car. It is very useful in a case like this.-- Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14886-wont-start-please-help/#findComment-111699 Share on other sites
