crap.. l28 clutch in l24 tranny, didn't work.

I was told that so long as I kept my 240z pressure plate and flywheel, that the 280zx clutch disc would bolt up fine. I was told wrong. The car won't go into gear when running.

2 questions,

1) what do I need to fix it? Just a 280 collar? Is that all?

2) I think I can get a good deal on a 280z 5-speed tranny locally. If so, will just swapping in the 280 tranny suffice? That would mean I'd have a 280 collar, 280zx clutch, 240z pressure plate, 240z flywheel. :stupid:

The key to the swap is the clutch, pressure plate and collar must be from the same vintage (either 240Z or 280Z or 280ZX). No mix and matching of these 3 components! You can use any transmission.

The pressure plate, clutch disc, and collar must match each other. 280 clutch disc definitely won't work with a 240 pressure plate, and vice versa.

i have a 240 collar with a 280 pp and clutch and it works fine. engages a little off the ground, but it works. if this thread is still valid, adjust the length of the arm on the clutch cylinder

I have a 240 flywheel, arm, t/o bearing, clutch slave cylinder and I am putting in a Centerforce P/P and disc. Will this set up work?

Centerforce I clutch set is designed to use the stock components. Just make sure you have the Centerforce set spec'd for a 240Z and not a 280Z.

If you are using a Centerforce II clutch set you have to use a 280Z T/O collar to make it work in a 240/260Z
