Interior map light

I've replaced my map light a few times on my 76 Z and was wondering if any one knew a better way to fix it. The bulb is fine just seems like a bad design the way you push down to turn it on. Also any one have any experience in putting a bigger watt bulb in the dome light? Thanks

You can also take the light apart to clean the inside and the lens. I did that and it helped some more light get out. In fact, I've removed all the plastic lenses on the car light and cleaned them all- it helped.

youd want to put a larger wattage bulb in the dome light. Those lenses are brittle enough. More wattage could speed that process up

I've never had any problem with mine in my 78. It worked when I bought the car about 8 years ago and I've never had to change the bulb. I don't ever use the thing except to test it now and then to see if it still works.

I use the one on my 72 240Z a lot. Can't see the heater controls without it.

So far, haven't had a single problem with it either. Snagged a spare lens out of the Pick N Pull just in case, but so far I haven't needed it.

Just be careful with it, and don't bang on it.

I don't know about the map light but the dome light . Insted of a different bulb try and paint the reflecter with white paint, it makes a big difference the same with the gages . The gages were painted white at the factory but they dident do a vary good job. Paint the back , inside shell and it too will reflect more light. Do just the back and the white cannot be seen from the front. The same for the tail lights and backup light.

I think my light fixtures were all made of white plastic, so I just cleaned them with a good soap. I contemplated putting in some Aluminum foil tape across the back for a reflector, but then I thought the lights were about as good as they can be, and it would be better to clean up the electrical connectors to increase the voltage at the bulbs instead.
