1982 280Z 2+2...Any suggestions, questions about the car?

Thanks

Welcome! Here's my two cents worth:

Go ahead. Get the car. Tinker with it. Clean it up. Get it running better.

"Enjoy the ride!"

But restoration? Nah. Hot rod? Nah. Don't sink a lot of money into this car. Save your pennies. Learn. Read.

Then, if you're still bit with the Z bug, get another one. If you need your next car to be a daily driver, consider one of the first-generation 300ZX's. If you already have a daily driver, then settle for nothing other than a 240.

I'd have to concur with SuperDave. A 1982 280ZX 2+2 is not that special, very common in the junkyards here in SoCal. It would make a good daily driver but I wouldn't go overboard with it. But it will also help you get familiar with the inner workings of the Z so that when you do get a S30 you won't have as much to learn. His advice is what I did with my 810 hardtop. It's a daily driver,semi-rare as the 2dr 810 was only made in 79. It's cleaned up, painted, it runs good, but it is not restored. And most of all, as in the case of your ZX, it's not a Z (S30)

Most of the bits for a 280ZX are less expensive than for the S30s, they are also much easier to find. I have a multitude of spares-I cleaned up an '82 grand luxury with t-tops, and accumulated more than I needed. all of the drive line from the engine to the differential is esxchangeable between the 240,260, 280s(including the ZX). For tthe most part any mechanical knowledge you gain on the ZX will transfer to the earlier Zs. The 280ZX is a more comfortable ride, but not nearly as much fun(I have both)-not counting tht t-tops.

Let me know if you need any interior pieces, while most interior parts are shared, I have an 82 2+2 parts car(eng/ tranny is gone), but the rest of it is still there.

WIll
