February 15, 200520 yr comment_112816 Those on eBay don't look like "early" 260Z ones to me, they look more like 280Z bumpers in my opinion.I wouldn't put 260Z ones on my car either, but.......................... February 15, 200520 yr comment_112880 Why, OH WHY, would you ever want to put 260Z bumpers on a 240???? And, as the question has already been asked, could you even do it without a lot of work, to what end? Take a look around for early 240 ones or consider the fiberglass ones MSA has for sale. They run about $140 each, you can paint them and they look sleek. Whatever bumper you put on there isn’t going to do much good even if you get into a minor scrape. It’s for show primarily so IMHO, go with what looks good to you. I’ve seen lots of pictures of Z’s without bumpers and they look good also. By the way, my 73 bumpers have no shocks. They are directly bolted on. George Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14999-240z-bumper-pricing/?&page=2#findComment-112880 Share on other sites
February 24, 200520 yr comment_113972 You can mount any bumper to the Z. From the 240Z bumper to the 260 bumper (early). All you have to do is make your own brackets from 1/8" bar stock that you can get from places like Home Depot. The best way to do it, is place the bumpers in the location you want and bend the bar to fit. You will have to drill some holes for mounting. But other then that it is mostly a bolt on. You can do this to the 280Z also. For rear bumper mounts on the 280Z, all you need is the mounts off of a 240Z. Place the bumper in the location you want and weld on. Only holes you will have to drill are on the sides. I have removed the shocks from both the 260Z and the 280Z. The fronts are easy. The backs, you have to drop the gas tank a small way to reach up inside it to remove some bolts. Then you can turn them and remove them. If you can get the brackets for the 240Z from an old Z or order from a parts house. They will work just as good. Take care, Rich. :beard: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14999-240z-bumper-pricing/?&page=2#findComment-113972 Share on other sites
February 24, 200520 yr comment_113983 The early 260 has the added benifit of still having the mounting points for the early bumper. If you obtain a 240 bumper and brackets, your conversion is complete. February 24, 200520 yr comment_113986 I've done this. It was a few years ago. I'm not near the car now, so I can't go outside and look, but it seems like I remember that something was in a different location and I solved it by reversing the brackets. Anyway it wound up fitting on the 260 (early) using 240 bumper and brackets. April 5, 200519 yr comment_119579 no matter, why would you put 260 bumpers on it? they just won't look right and are kinda like slappin your z in the face and dousing her with water! You should seriously consider just waiting...enough time, you'll fine a front and rear set of 70-72 bumpers in good condition for $100-200 each...maybe even less...I have seen some with minor 'dents' or that need chroming, for $100 set...but alas, not since I've wanted to get a front.... April 5, 200519 yr comment_119590 They are definitly not 280 bumpers. All of the 280's had the big crash bumpers. I looked at a 260 today and the bumpers on ebay look to be the same. Yes , you can put early 260 bumpers on a 240. Some minor mods may be necessary. April 6, 200519 yr comment_119594 .........and 260Z bumpers are bigger than 70-72 240Z bumpers. There aren't many reasons to want to put 260Z bumpers on a 240Z. 260Z bumpers may not be as big and ugly as 280Z bumpers, but they ARE bigger and uglier that 240Z bumpers.
