In getting the car ready to go back together-not that I am close to that point, I have come upon yet another quandry. What do you do to ready the trany-not rebuilding, but ceaning and coating.

If Aluminum is cleaned with Marine Clean, it looks great for a week or so, and then starts to develop oxidation because there is nothing coating the surface to protect it. What are you guys doing-if anything? Oiling, waxing, clear coat, plating, dare I say it, buffing it out?

Will

I cleaned, degreased and then used metal ready on mine. Then instead of using POR I used a Rust-Oleum metal finish "chrome or silver" spray paint. I won't know how it will hold up, but for now it looks real good. Touch up's won't be too difficult either.

Will, are you building a trailer queen or a car to be driven?

In my daily driver, I painted with Rustoleum (forget the name, some silver lookin color) I thought about a clear coat after that, but in the end didn't follow through.

Will, I went after casting parting lines with a 4" grinder/sanding pads. Then I went over the whole thing with a mounted Scotch-Brite paint stripping pad (various grits). Then masked off certain areas and got the thing bead blasted. Finished up with multiple coats of clear.

I'mm just asking.....................aren't those ridges in the trans case meant to provide structural rigidity or strength?

Do you plan on crawling under the car on a frequent basis to clean things like the trans case and steering rack, diff, etc?
