I just pulled my first engine 3 days ago, I am ecstatic!! Anyways I took the tranmission off and I was thinking about this exact topic, but I came across something I was unsure of. How hot does the transmission get when running? I assumed it would become fairly warm from the propeller shaft and gears spinning, along with the exhaust nearby. I had thought about using a standard spraypaint as some fo you did, but I was not sure if it would stay.

Amend my post to bead blast/clear coat using high heat paint, this is what I did and so far it has stood up well.

You can also get a flame resistant clear but it is probably overkill.

Yea , what you did is probably the best choice. Although, it is possible the spray paint jobs hold, only time will tell! But overall I do not think it will be terrible if the pain peels becuase....we are talking about the transmission, which commonly remains unseen

Agreed, but it depends on what you are going for with your car.

The high heat paint wasnt that much more than the regular clear anyway. Just by a big can of the Holts stuff and you will have enough. I did 4 coats on all of the pieces.

Note I painted mine while the tranny was apart and then touched it up when it was put back together, just prior to installing it.

The tranny gets pretty warm, but not hot, unless there is a problem-meaning the cosmetics would be the least of the worries.

I think my choice will be to clean it-knock down the casting marks, and coat it with GlistenPC from the folks at POR15.com. I like the clean look of Eds and Panchovistas.
