March 10, 200520 yr comment_115963 about time someone other than my dad and i did this!except we used Re-bar positioned in a triangle, so that way it only took one bath for the parts. left them there 12 hours a piece. everything came out great! March 11, 200520 yr Author comment_116292 Here is what my L24 block looked like before I attempted electrolytic rust removal on it. It had been degreased, but the rust remained. The guys at the machine shop said "it's not as bad as it looks" when I picked it up. It sure looks bad to me. After 24 hours in the solution, this is what the garbage can looked like. When you know that the rust-colored stuff is rust rising off of your parts, this is a beautiful sight. And after about 40 hours in the can, this is what she looks like after some light brushing and rinsing. I immediately blew some air on and in her, used my paint dryer to dry out the cylinders and internal surfaces, and dabbed some WD40 on. I think I'll get some primer and paint her this weekend. Not bad, huh? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15038-electrolytic-rust-removal/?&page=3#findComment-116292 Share on other sites

June 4, 200519 yr comment_126370 This is Her Majesty the 26th, bare naked metal and 100% rust free. She also has some holes where rust used to be. Poor thing. She is just out of the tank and has not been wiped down yet. These pictures are from this morning. She sat in the electrolysis tank for three days after all the paint and junk was stripped off. The plastic covering on the wire harness metal tabs has not been harmed nor has any of the lead filler. She is 100% rust free inside and out. Cool, huh?
