Ford 302"??

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine has a Ford 302" he is wanting to get rid of. Really nothing is wrong with it, probably needs a rebuild. I was looking over the Jags-that-run site and talked to a few guys who have done this. Any thoughts? I'd like to leave my 5-speed or get another to go with the 302" if I do it. Any ideas how much heavier a 302" is when compared to a pretty much stock L28? Is this a wiring nightmare with the EFI setup on the 302"? Keep in mind this is just a thought at the moment.

There are plenty of good reasons to go 302 in a Z-8. Lots of speed parts, plenty of cheap parts, light weight, and DISTRIBUTER IN FRONT! And, plenty of people have done it. We, don't want to lose you here, but be sure and check out HYBRIDZ.com. LOTS of 302 info there.

I have been told mixed things about ford 302s for doing A Z.

The big thing is the type of 302. Ford has diff. 302s out there and what I have been told is there are some out there where the oilpan will not clear the stock crossmember.

Please let me know if I was told wrong. I have been A GM/ MOPAR guy forever so I have stuck with what I know. Just trying ta help out.

the ford 302 is soposed to be 40 LB's lighter. there is a lot of info on www.hybridz.org i would go there and read some of the posts there if you are thinking of doing this. also the oil pan problem is an easy fix. there are two ways of doing this you can ither natch the front of it or you can go ger a double sump pan off a bronco and put it on it (the front sump is smaller and will clear by an inch or more). the two things that end up being clearance problems are the oil filter and the headers. i am planing on going with a 302 and i am not a ford guy im a chevy guy the ford engines are just better for this swap (lighter and will actually get you a 50/50 center balance if done right the chevys will get you close but not there and they are heavier) also if you want an easyer swap go with a chevy more people have done it and there is more info out there. i belive the most popular v-8 swap is a chevy 350.
