Posted February 21, 200520 yr comment_113599 Not only am I having brake issues.....I have a clutch issue........Ok, I said before the car sat for 5 years......it is a 70/240I replaced the master and slave, bled it out 10 times and have 5% clutch. The tranny is a 5 speed (stamped 7X22625) the slave that was on it when I bought it was 70 adjustable so I replaced it and the master with OEM replacement. The car will not go into reverse while running and the forward gears are tough as well. The original owner had the conversion done at the Nissan dealership in Palm beach, FL......Not sure which direction to go from here.......any help would be a big helpThanks Capt MarkMark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15059-5-speed-conversionclutch/ Share on other sites
February 21, 200520 yr comment_113619 When I had this problem it turned out that the hole in the clutch PEDAL (where the bracket of the clutch master cylinder attaches with a clevis pin) had become OVAL (instead of ROUND) due to years of wear and tear. That created "slop" in the linkage which prevented the master cylinder from being operated a full stroke. Thus the full amount of fluid was not being pumped to operate the slave cylinder. It takes less than 5 minutes to duck under the dash with a flashlight and observe what is going on there to confirm if this IS or IS NOT your problem. February 21, 200520 yr Author comment_113659 Carl, I will check that out, when I installed it was all the way at the end of the adjustment....I guess a 1/8" can make a difference. February 21, 200520 yr comment_113664 What Carl said, in my young and stupid days, I thought I needed a clutch, fortunatly, I had a great mechanic who took care of the problem honestly, and said he would wait to charge me until there was some real work to do.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15059-5-speed-conversionclutch/#findComment-113664 Share on other sites
February 21, 200520 yr comment_113683 Carl, I will check that out, when I installed it was all the way at the end of the adjustment....I guess a 1/8" can make a difference. The hole in my pedal was so ovalled that it was twice as long as it was wide. The hole is supposed to be 8mm dia. and it was at least 16mm X 8mm when I found it. Had the "slot" drilled out, and a 8mm bushing bronze-welded into place. Mo Betta! February 21, 200520 yr Author comment_113727 Carl, You were right the clutch was not engaging fully, I also have a lot of slop where it is pinned. I managed to tighten it up a little and got another 1/8" out of adjustment. Took off the rubber bump stop on the floor board and now I have some clutch. It will get me through Zfest this week end, then I will take it apart and fix it right.I want to thank you and everyone for their help, it is awsome that you guysare willing to share you knowledge. I hope I can help out too.Mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15059-5-speed-conversionclutch/#findComment-113727 Share on other sites
