Posted February 23, 200520 yr comment_113893 hello. i've recently purchased a '71 240 after much research(this site helped a great deal). the car came with almost everything needed for the 300zx brake swap.toyota 4-piston calipars, 300rotors,jsk spacers, but no bolts.i've learned through these forums that i will need 10mm x 1.25 x 40mm long (10.9 hardness). is the 1.25 the thread pitch? how about the bolt head? i've contacted motorsport and they do not sell just the bolts. any ideas of the best place to make this purchase? is there anything else i'll need? the swap looks pretty straight forward, anything i should specifically watch out for. any or all help is greatly appreciated! i look forward to many more discussions in the future. February 23, 200520 yr comment_113896 Yes 1.25 is the pitch. I found my bolts at the local Ace Hardware. I would recommend that you replace the brake hoses to stainless steel lines while you are in there. They really help firm up the pedal feel. I would also pick up a set of Speed Bleeders. You will be doing a lot of bleeding to get all the air out with this set up. Speed Bleeders allow you to do the job without an assistant. I also recommend that you get a 10ft length of clear tubing and their collection bag. This allows you to sit in the drivers seat and pump the brakes to your hearts content, till you don't see any more air bubbles coming up the tube. Check here: http://www.speedbleeder.com/I also used Axxis Ultimate pads, which are a kevlar/ceramic compound. It gives outstanding stopping performance. You'll love it.Good luck and welcome to the club.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15088-brake-swap/#findComment-113896 Share on other sites

April 17, 200519 yr comment_120802 Thanks for the info. can I use a 1973 tran 5 speed in a 71 and will it bolt up? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15088-brake-swap/#findComment-120802 Share on other sites
April 17, 200519 yr comment_120855 73 did not have a 5 speed available in the US so it has already been swapped with a later model, any of the later 5 speeds from the 280Z-280ZX will bolt in. There may or may not be issues with shifter hole location on a 71 but it isn't a big problem from what I have read. April 17, 200519 yr comment_120858 Series II 240z's the tranny will bolt right up. If your 71 has round Z emblems on the top corner panel, that's Series II. If it has a 240z emblem there, its series I and the tranny tunnel hole will have to be slightly cut to fit a 5 speed. Not very much though.... April 18, 200519 yr comment_120897 dogma,i was under the impression from other posts that the 5spd swap or even the 4spd 'A' to 4spd 'B' into a 240 (regardless of series) always meant either nibbling the tunnel or getting the 'bent' shifter (nismo?). i have a later console if necessary so the shifter doesn't interfere with the console in 5th. if not, that's good news for me since i was a little queasy about cutting the tunnel even if only 1 1/2 inches. i have a 'B' i wanted to change out to get rid of the 'A' shift slop, and eventually want the 5spd.have you done this yourself?
