Posted February 24, 200520 yr comment_113976 I am thinking of adding a fan shroud to my 71 240Z !!!! I fell it would help the radiator to get more air and keep the car running a little cooler !!! I live in Florida so the cooler the better. My 72 has one but 71 or newer Z's did not come with one. Is a fan shroud from 72-78Z cars interchangable ???? February 24, 200520 yr comment_113978 They are only interchangeable if your radiator has been changed. The later ones have bolt patterns that match up to the later radiators. You need to measure the points where it attaches and locate one where the bolt holes will line up correctly. Ask the seller for these measurements before buying or ordering. The 70-73 will fit your 240 (new about $70. - used about $35-40). Starting in '74 they came in upper and lower halves. I don't know if any of the aftermarket units for the 240s come as single or 2-part pieces. February 24, 200520 yr Author comment_113990 Who sells them new ???? Are they the metal or plastic ????? Is the metal better than the plastic ????? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15095-fan-shroud/#findComment-113990 Share on other sites
February 24, 200520 yr comment_113993 I bought and installed the fiberglass one that MSA sells (Dam they have alot of my money!) It fits nicely. I can't attribute to it contribution to engine cooling as my z runs fairly cool as a rule. I added it as insurance. February 24, 200520 yr comment_114021 A nice 240 came up to the pre-car show classification station at the Long Beach ZCCA convention last year and we had a long look. The original owner had entered it in stock class but we found over a dozen non-stock items on the car. One of them was the FG fan shroud. The OEM ones were metal. I haven't seen one of those in years.... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15095-fan-shroud/#findComment-114021 Share on other sites

February 24, 200520 yr comment_114037 The forum Technical Articles is specifically for finished, edited "How to" threads. for instance, if you had photo documented an installation of a fan shroud on a 71, 72 or early 73 Z (they are all the same in this detail) and wrote a how to install article around your photos, that would belong in that forum. I've moved this to the engine forum, as I believe it belongs. February 24, 200520 yr comment_114051 I installed one of the fiberglass shrouds from MSA last fall. I had to drill the mounting holes in it, but other than that, no complaints. If I remember correctly, I didn't even need to remove anything except the fan to install it. It took some monkeying around to get it oriented so it would go in past the upper 'roof' plate that sticks out from the upper tank.Did it make a difference? It is hard to say, but probably not when taking into account the placebo effect that was sure to result after shelling out money for it. Driving conditions and all that are never consistent enough in my use to really determine if there is a huge difference. I still notice the temperature needle climb when I get stuck in traffic on a warm day, but that is the result of some other factors and were not really improved by the shroud. February 24, 200520 yr comment_114060 Inf - have you tried lowering the amount of anti-freeze or using a water-wetter product for your Z? You would need to increase the anti-freeze as winter approaches but it does help. I've done both and noticed a difference.
