March 1, 200520 yr comment_114634 Ah! correctly colored lenses, The same molds could make the clear variety as well.I'd spring for 2 sets but only with the correct coloring-the price is coming down...I just emailed them asking for details of hw they would deal with the lens having a clear section and red(I don't see aproblem), and a glued in reflector(maybe a red flag), I offered to take pictures if needed, I did forget to address the chrome piece in the middle, but only because I am almost through with a solution for it!Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15155-reproduction-taillight-lenses-can-have-them-made/#findComment-114634 Share on other sites
March 1, 200520 yr comment_114666 Here is my Email to them, followed by their reply.>> Hi, and thanks for your service.> I have a question about taillight reproduction.> The taillight lenses on a Datsun 240Z are actually a single lense with a clear portion, a red portion, and an embedded(glued in) reflector, all glued into a plastic housing with chrome plated reflectors. I can supply photographs if you need them.> My understanding is that you make only the lenses. How faithful would your reproduction be in terms of color, and parts(imbedded reflector).> Thank you,> William Stokes> on behalf of www.classiczcars.com The reply:Hi there,I do infact only make the lens. If you could send some detailed pictures i could answer your questions better. We can duplicate those deflectors no problem.I cant garanty any kind of color match as its near impossible to do.I can garanty that the lenses i produce will match each other but i cant match stock lenses.> From: "WILL STOKES" <>> Reply-To: <>> To: <info@klearz.com>> Subject: Tail lights> Date: Tue, 1 Mar 2005 12:35:05 -0800Tomorrow morning, I will take some pictures and post the email I attatche them to here, when the reply comes, I will post it as well. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15155-reproduction-taillight-lenses-can-have-them-made/#findComment-114666 Share on other sites
March 2, 200520 yr Author comment_114693 I dont think that i would mind not having the chrome strip IF they could make the amber portion (jdm style). March 2, 200520 yr comment_114761 New update! I had to shrink the images to post them here, and that made the text difficult to read. Sent message: Hi, Attatched, please find 3 high resolution photos with afew measurements and notes of and about the taillights I wrote to you about yesterday. I can send a sample of the taillights is necessary. Thank you, William Stokes Ps, I sent it to both addresses for you because hotmail may not allow files this large. March 2, 200520 yr comment_114765 I did forget to address the chrome piece in the middle, but only because I am almost through with a solution for it! You are going to share this solution, right? March 2, 200520 yr comment_114775 From Tina at Klearz:"... as you mention they are infact 1 peice lens. if the reflector is glued on, it would probably just be embeded in my reproduction, as in not removable.i ajusted the quote on the z page on our website.let me know if you have anymore questionsthanks for taking the time to send me those pictures.Tina > Date: Wed, 2 Mar 2005 09:30:52 -0800>Tina,Is there a phone number I can call to talk about the lenses for a few minutes, the reflector in the lens is actually a 2 piece reflector guled into the lens, and I don't see a way to cast it in a single casting, and keep the reflectivity(it is smooth on both outer surfaces, and obviously jagged between the two pieces that are glued together and then glued into a hole in the lens.>> William StokesHey there,"...I see now what you mean about the reflectors being on the inside. If the reflector can be detached from the lens we can cast it as a seperate peice no problem. But it will be 10-20$ depending on the size of it.Tina" Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15155-reproduction-taillight-lenses-can-have-them-made/#findComment-114775 Share on other sites
March 2, 200520 yr comment_114778 Will: What reflecter are you refering to? Is it in any of the pictures you posted? I've never had one of these apart and I guess I don't understand what it is and how it could reflect light "out" if it is glued to the lens (i.e. in between the light source and the lens) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15155-reproduction-taillight-lenses-can-have-them-made/#findComment-114778 Share on other sites
March 2, 200520 yr comment_114779 The rectangle in the upper portion of the lense is a two piece (glued together) reflector(just like the reflector in a bicycle wheel) that is then glued into the lens. The side markers are made the same way, but the body of the lens is one of the two pieces(I can post a picture of the side marker dissassembled if it will make this more clear).I will take a stab at editing one of the previously posted pictures to make it more plain.Ok, I need better lighting to take a photo that clearly shows that it is a seporate piece glued in.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15155-reproduction-taillight-lenses-can-have-them-made/#findComment-114779 Share on other sites
March 2, 200520 yr comment_114781 I see what you are saying now. I was thinking more on the lines of the silver (curved) reflecters that are part of the rear "housing" of the tail lights. :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15155-reproduction-taillight-lenses-can-have-them-made/#findComment-114781 Share on other sites
