Kats,

I have a bunch of pictures to post of strange parts I cannot identify. Can we do this here? As soon as I get photos of the alternators, I will post them. Just after you bought yours, I found one in Jim's garage. Then I took the one off #27 and sent them both to a shop that specializes in antique electrical motors and such. Both of my alternators were frozen solid! Both of them had to be rewound and those parts were sent to two different places! The fellow kept calling me on the phone to explain the delay saying; "you can't get parts for these things anymore"! They were finished yesterday and I must go pick them up. I can't wait!

Here are two heat shields. The one with the throttle spring clips on the bottom is from 26 and 27. Look at this one with the throttle spring clips in the middle. What is that from?

Chris,

Just a thought, as I do not have an answer for what it came off of, but is it possible it is from an early production run and later they discovered they needed additional return spring length and tension, so they relocated the spring attach point lower? The one on my 1970 (s/n HLS3002126) looks like the ones off 26 & 27. Just a thought!

P.S. Kats, you are doing an incredible on your Z. Two thumbs up!!!

Tom,

#16 and #19 have the same heat shield as mine. Z Therapy shows the same one as mine. Could this be a Fairlady part? We are stumped. I am also stumped about an air cleaner I have. Pictures soon.

Kats,

Would you please look up a part number for me from your 1969 parts book? Distributer cap. My book shows 22162-E3001 but the cap is green with aluminum contacts. I want to know what the black with brass contacts cap is - or if it is different. For that matter, what is the deal between the green caps and the black caps?

26th-Z,

The earliest L20A-engined Fairladies ( roughly contemporary with your cars ) had the heat shield with the spring tabs at the bottom - same as both your cars, so I don't think the example you have with the spring tabs positioned higher up is a Fairlady item ( at least not early Fairlady anyway ).

Here's a scan from the 1969 Japanese-market Factory workshop manual as evidence. It was published in November 1969, and ( as a guide to when the photos were shot ) it uses PS30-00009 as a 'model' in the 432 section......

Well, that interesting! Were there any other early Datsuns, using the L6, such as sedans that may have used the heat shield with the upper positioned spring perches? Will be interesting to find out.

26th-Z,I am feeling the same as you.Let's talk whatever strange parts which related/seems related to early and OEM parts here!!

I am very happy many people talk and post photos here.

Alan, thank you for the photo,I am very interested for PS30-00009.You have many old japanese magazine than me,so please keep looking this thread and help to identify the early story of S30.

Thank you 240ZX,yours has holes in the middle?Only "29" HLS30s between yours and mine,so I must have middle one?But I checked today, mine has holes at the end of plate.I must call TETSU,he bought my Z from L.A. and he restored my Z 5 years ago.He should remember he restored the plate which came with my Z or he just bought new one from the factory.

I have many many things that I want to post here.

kats

PS.I attatched this photo, you can see the blue air cleaner and blue/grayish distributer cap,and very unusual fuel pipe with white rubber fuel pipe to the SU carbs. This photo is taken from mid 1970 brochure, but I must say this 240Z is the same car which shows up in the earliest service manual and very early brochures/press release photos. The reasons are described soon.

I will check the part number,26th-Z.

Hi Kats:

On your web site, you show what you call an "early" oil pressure switch.

That "looks" like the "Oil Pressure Sending Unit" that was used on the 2000 Roadster's. Many people switched from using the oil pressure sending units that were supplied on the L24, to using the ones for the roadsters because the ones used on the roadsters were more accurate and held up better.

The hyper-link to "Rubber glomet for cables"

http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/workrub.html

results in either a blank page being displayed, or I get redirected to some other Google site. Can you fix that link? I'd like to know what/which rubber Grommet you need.

Screws for door strikers: I believe that the silver one's shown are as original.. but I will go pull the one's for HLS30 00020 to see what they look like. All the Z's here at the house have the silver bolts shown (71, 72, 72, 73).

Do you know the difference between a "screw" and a "bolt"?.... Have you ever been bolted? (an old joke;-)

kind regards,

Carl

That is a great photo, Kats. My original brochure for 26 shows a black distributer cap and I have a conversation going about what color cap is early. The blue air cleaner is fabulous! I wonder what decals are on it?

Thanks for your photo, Alan. That clears up another question, incidently. Thanks.

The first picture is of the throttle linkage end from 26 and 27. The second picture shows four of the same linkage parts. The two on the left are early. The one in the middle with the curved end is a later version. Notice the one on right is upside-down. What is that?

Hi Carl,

Thank you for telling me,I revise my website. Screw or Bolt?In a service manual it said "screw" but in a parts catalog"bolt".Switch or Sending unit?Sending unit is suitable for me,it is not like switch on/off.

I did not know the oil pressure sending unit was used on the roadstar too.

I only know a door opening handle! Some parts were installed on both S30/roadstar,this is interesting.

I am wondering that the sending unit which many people switched from originaly equipped on L24.

Is this it?I attached 2 pictures.First,an oil pressure sending unit on L24 with a single carb.Second,an oil pressure sending unit on L24 with a dual SU carbs.

Both pictures were taken from the service manual.

2 weeks ago I went to the NISSAN parts department in Kyoto,I saw two kinds of oil pressure sending unit. The one is 25240-89910,this is a very small unit and it has an exactly same shape as seen in the first picture"L24 with a single carb"Is this small unit the one which many people switched?.Another one is 25070-89910,this is what I bought which has same shape as seen in the second picture"L24 with dual SU carbs"

The second one 25070-89910 is the one which I bought as you can see in my web site, I bought it aprox.$50 U.S.

26th-Z,the number for the distributer cap is same in the Nov 1969 catalog.22162-E3001 was not changed from first issued Nov 1969,first rev. Mar 1970,second rev. Jun 1970.I did checked them.

Hi Enrique, please try again this one,

http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/working.html

I checked this link today with a computer outsied and it worked normal.

I hope you can see them. But they are not so special for you...

I attached these pictures,#1/from the earliest manual and #2/my engine 5 years ago. Both show the heat shield with lower hole for the springs. And both show these S.U. do not have a drain bolts at a float chamber. This is a signe of early S.U.

kats

PS.26th-Z,I guess the distributer cap was gray at very early production, but later turned black without changing part number. But I do not know when the change was made. Please see carefuly this last picuture, this is from very famous brochure in the U.S. I guess printed early 1970,the distributer cap is not black, seems to me grayish color. This car has an early type cabin air duct which has a metal basement. So this car maybe 1969/Jan 1970 model.
