Hi Kats (everyone):

First let me say that from memory only... I recall replacing the smaller OEM Oil Pressure Sending Units (25240-89910) on the L24's with the much larger units from the 2000 Roadsters. It was a long time ago and I could be remembering it incorrectly. Or maybe I need to order another Roadster Sending Unit to remind myself what they looked like...

Second:

In my Nissan Parts Manual revised June of 1974, it shows:

25070-89910 Switch Oil Pressure From 08/73

In my Nissan Parts Manual revised December of 1979, it shows

25070-89901 Gauge Oil Pressure From 08/73

Is it possible that by Dec. 73 they "corrected" the part number, changing it from 25070-89910 to 25070-89901? Or did they create an error with that change?

Checking the online Parts Sources..

25070-89910 good number Sw Oil Press $46.36

25070-89901 supercedes to 25070-89972 Sw Oil Press $46.32

25240-89910 good number Gauge Oil Pressure $10.96

It would be interesting to "see" what part you would get today, if you ordered the 25240-89910.

It would be interesting to find what part number is listed in the 2000 Roadster Parts Manual.

The car pictured in the Jan. 1970 Road & Track... which we believe was HLS30 0006, 00007 or 00008... has the Large Oil Pressure Sending Unit shown.

The car pictured in the Aug. 1970 ROAD TEST Magazine also shows the Large one.

The car pictured in the Oct. 1971 ROAD TEST Magazine also shows the Large one. (first tests of the Automatic Transmission).

If I can find an old oil pressure sending unit... I'll let you know what I find. Right now however it would seem that you have the correct unit for the early L24's in the Datsun 240-Z.

Hi 26th-Z,

Hmm,I thought the cap was not black.But it is black...Simply the cap is shining,reflecting the light so it looks much brighter than black.

More I am interested in your brochure,1969 brochure.Is there date of issue on the back?I can not find any date on my brochure,just unreadable code on the back.

26th-Z,

The heat shield has holes in the middle,this is very very rare.It makes me imagine the hole was a hand craft made.I want to know why they made this heat shield?With this heat shield,the spring rate was a different from another one?

Also the "up-side down"throttle linkage is unique.My 03/1970 240Z has a early one,just same as 26th-Z showed us."up-side down"one is a later type,so is there something changing later?

First, I looked up the part number of oil press.sending unit in the NOV 1969 parts catalog,there is a 25240-89910 SWITHCH-OIL PRESSURE in the Electrical section "25-1/switches, flasher unit & cigarette lighter"

But,I felt something unusual by cross-cheking my another parts catalog

DEC 1979 FINAL ISSUE.It begins from 25070-89910 SWITHCH-OIL PRESSURE (10KG).

I recheked NOV 1969 catalog,I could not find 25070-89910first,but finaly I made it by serching from part number index,the number is in the Electrical section "26/speedometer,tachometer & combination meter"

I do not know why,25070-89910 is described "ASSY-GAUGE OIL PRESSURE ENGINE" and the picture for this number is a combination gauge,oil pressure portion.

This style of discription is continued to first Rev.Mar 1970,and second Rev.Jun 1970.

So I went to the local NISSAN and asked them show me both,25240-89910 & 25070-89910.And I bought one 25070-89910.

Hi,

I post photos of an HITACHI LT145-35,I happened to get it yesterday.I was trying to rebuild old one myself,but the shop which I ordered some minor rebuilding parts for my old HITACHI had the completely rebuild LT145-35.

I was so surprised and I bought it about $230 U.S.

I was stupid I did not take pictures before installing.

Will continue report about this.

Hi Kats,

Just some information on the oil pressure sending unit, in the back of Wick Humble's book, if you have that, on restoring a 240-z, (I don't have the book with me or I would give you a reference page), he gives all of the part numbers, and explains which oil pressure gages go with which sending units. Hope this helps.

Ok! I got my pictures of my alternators!

These came off 26 and 27. I just had both of them restored. They were both frozen solid and the staters had to be rewound to have them function again. The front fan and pulley need to be plated - not painted black. The fans are in good enough shape to be plated, but both pulleys are pitted from rust and must be replaced. The Datsun patches are just there for photographic interest.

You all must know what an eBay junkie I am. Over the months, I have picked up two early style air cleaners. These are the types with an open air horn and no damper or preheater outlet. I want to show you three cleaners using the original from 26 as an example to describe the other two.

The air cleaner can and backing plate on the left is original from 26. The one in the middle is a later style that incorporates a vent tube for the fuel vapor recovery system in the Z. 26 has no fuel vapor recovery system and that is a peculiar issue with very early cars. The air cleaner on the right is the mystery cleaner. I can't figure out where / what it came from. Perhaps it doesn't belong on a Z car. Who has seen one of these? Here are all three. Detailed explanation and pictures to follow.

Lets start with the "can" - the outer "upper" part that has the air horn. The left picture is the can from 26. Notice how the air filter is held in place by spring clips. The picture on the right has rounded tabs to hold the air filter in place. The mystery cleaner has this type. From my parts book, both of these types are 16526-E4300.

Here is where it gets interesting. The backing plate to the air cleaner "lower" is part number 16528-E4600. The one on the left is from 26. Notice the nice round air horns. The valve cover breather vent tube bends inside the cleaner. There are other vent tubes on the outside for the carburetor vent hoses. The crankcase breather vent is just a hole in the backing plate.

The mystery air cleaner has none of this. Notice the air horns are nipped off. Notice the screen for the valve cover breather - no tube. Also, there are no vent tubes for the carburetor or a vapor recovery system hose. There ARE dimples in the metal to mark the locations of where these lugs would be welded on to the backing plate, but nothing is there and there are no signs of modification. The piece is real clean.

In my parts book, the air cleaner assembly is superseded a number of times. 16500-E4600 is good to 8/71. Then E4700 to 6/72. Then E4701 from 7/72 to 7/73. There is optional 16500-E4610 introduced 8/71. There is also 16500-E8800 introduced 9/71 "L24 Tropics". What do you think I have?

Hi Chris:

The picture on the Left, the one from #26.. is the same as the one on #20. The picture on the Right, looks the same as an air cleaner from a late Series I that I have (around 10/70).. I do not know for certain that it is the original air cleaner on that car however.

I can not see the third one well enough to be able to telly anything.

Hi,

Last 3 months I lived in Tokyo and had driven my Z almost everyday.Every monday-friday I used my Z for commuter.Japan is very humite now,my Z got wet so much.

The parking lot is outside no roof,very bad for Z's exterior but I continue to ride.

After my job in Tokyo was completed,I drove it 8 hours to my home,on the way to my home I had a trouble of distributor.I noticed it was so noisy!!I began to disassemble it and clean and rebuilt it by myself.
