Posted March 3, 200520 yr comment_114954 Just picked up some 280zx 6 spokes that are in dire need of cleaning and polishing. They are extremely dull right now. Couple of questions: 1) Are these aluminum wheels? 2) What's the best way to polish them up to get them looking like new? Thanks,Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15177-polishing-280zx-6-spoke-wheels/ Share on other sites

March 3, 200520 yr Author comment_114957 Yep those are the ones. I've never heard of using coarse grit sandpaper to polish aluminum though :surprised Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15177-polishing-280zx-6-spoke-wheels/#findComment-114957 Share on other sites
March 3, 200520 yr comment_114958 I've never heard of using coarse grit sandpaper to polish aluminum though :surprisedWe've discussed this here several times - both for wheels and other components such as valve covers. Do a search for "sandpaper polish". Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15177-polishing-280zx-6-spoke-wheels/#findComment-114958 Share on other sites

March 4, 200520 yr comment_115085 sounds wierd but yes you do use sandpaper to sand aluminium and then polish it.here are some pics of my standard 27 year old 260Z mags.http://image22.webshots.com/23/0/30/3/221903003UmLNCa_ph.jpgThese each took a very long time but as you can see the end result was very worth the effort, and it worked out cheaper and better than getting someone to do them, you just need the time.BTW: that old looking wheel was after they had been acid washed.Tom.
