What does this thing do?

It is named as a bleed off container for the fuel pressure regulator, but it could also be used as a fuel accumulator for adding efi to a carbureated engine-the carb fuel pump at the tank pumps fuel into this container, then an efi fuel pump pushes the fuel to the injectors, and the excess form the FPR is bled back into the tank.

I got my idea from looking at MSA's website zcarparts.com. Look up radiator, then click on the chrome radiator overflow tank. It looks quite simular. The two little outlets on the bottom of the tank threw me off however.

The one that we have on the 77 even has the clear tube attached along the side of the cannister so you can see the level of fluid in the tank. But ours was purchased at a speed shop a couple of years ago.

radiator overflow? never heard of it before but it would make sense to have one so you dont lose fluid if you over heat it. and for show. is that what they're used for or am i mistaken, i cant really think of any other reason to have one.

Here's an even better idea from MSA:

http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=10-2069

I suppose someone could ask them what it's for ...

ROFL

yeah, fuel blow-by, aka oil catch can. its supposed to be used to prevent oil leakings and otherwise prevent any oil particles in the engine bay to be sucked into the induction. used mostly for show nowadays on ricer cars and for unneccessary oil leak prevention on racing cars.
