The new garage looks to me like a better place to park my cars than to work on them. Maybe that would be the ultimate demonstration of wealth, having two separate distinct facilities to house/repair your vehicles.

Money can't buy a lot of things, but it does create more options.

You are technically correct about the zoning issue, but I think the business description is a stretch. Thats a low impact business.

I do custom garages for clients all the time. Typically, my residential work involves four and six car garages incorporated with the house. I'm doing a house for a baseball player now, and the motor court provides comfortable spaces for twelve cars. It would be nothing to hire a mechanic to come in and work on his buddies' cars. I know mechanics with that kind of clientele. If you can afford to build it, you can afford to have someone come in and clean it.

Some "garages" are built as entertainment rooms and the car is simply part of the art work. Some are grimey shops. Mine is a little of both with heavy emphasis on grimey shop.

My neighbors have called the police on me numerous times for having a car on Jack stands-or a rotisserie in the garage, having a car covered in the carport, having a presentable parts car on the driveway for a day-every time the city has come out and verified that each of the cars in question is mine, and that I am not running a business. Usually by the end of the day, at least three different city officials have visited me at my hobby-and that is all due to no noise-low impact visual stimuli! It all depends on neighbors.

We have several of those guys here-a Plastic surgeon with an original 250GTO(and lots of other nice cars) He is a collector, seriously into appearances but no knowledge of the mechanism, There is one traveling Ferrari mechanic in town.

To be into cars, at least two of the following criteria must be met on at least a yearly basis. Parts have to be occasionally in your living space(livingroom, dining room, bedroom....) Your hands have to get so dirty it takes a day or two to get them absolutely clean-even with scrubbing. Your tools have to have more wear from your own use than from your admiration.

Aye! It didn't look like it had ever been worked in. Beautiful and decidedly desireable place, but it does look a bit like Paris Hilton's Garage. i.e. It's been designed to be the best, but it hasn't been worked in. It's supposed to be spotless for her sake, but have everything for whatever gent she may be entertaining to feel at home. And at that point, who would want to leave?

I've got parts and Sports Z issues in the living room, carbs on my desk near the dining room, open FSM on the dining room table, other parts on my kitchen table (needless to say I usually eat sitting in the living room, no room on any of my tables). Of course we just came thru winter and I've been too lazy to stoke the woodstove in the garage. Also I'm a divorced/bachelor and don't have a wife to complain about any of this. My garage is big, but full of spares and a variety of other stuff and will never be mistaken for the ultimate garage. However, if it does the job.... If I don't clean up the house soon my marital status will probably remain the same. Right now that doesn't sound so bad. More time to work on the Z. (Unless of course I can find a girlfriend/wife with welding and body work skills).
