Posted March 11, 200520 yr comment_116277 Ok, I know most of you guys have installed this PU master kit, my questions are what is not included and what additional should I buy? I am assuming the worst case scenario on my 70240, any tips will be appreciated.ThanksCapt Mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15270-energy-suspension-hyperflex-master-kit/ Share on other sites
March 11, 200520 yr comment_116280 I just installed that kit(off the car), it has every bushing in the stock suspension. It does not have any for a rear swaybar, the tranny, or the differential mounting-it does have the mustache bar bushings. Look at the MSA or VB catalogs, they clearly illustrate what comes with it, and they have a stock suspension drawing to compare to to identify what bushings/insulators you might also want to replace.I chose to add the G-Machine allignment adjustment kits front and rear, and actually had a very enjoyable conversation with the owner of G-Machine Inc. He was one of the primarys in Kontrolle Shocks, and gave me some information about them. There are many threads about installing the bushings, and the tip to end all is: BORROW THE SPINDLE PIN PULLER from Beandip!!! Do not attempt to pound the spindle pin out! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15270-energy-suspension-hyperflex-master-kit/#findComment-116280 Share on other sites
March 11, 200520 yr Author comment_116285 I was just looking at the 260/280 kit 7.18102, it does include the rear sway bar bushings and the trany mount bushings. It is only $10 bucks more, and it might work better for me since I have the 5 speed and a rear sway bar. I have not looked at the trany mount to see. Are the rest of the bushing the same in both kits?thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15270-energy-suspension-hyperflex-master-kit/#findComment-116285 Share on other sites
March 11, 200520 yr comment_116289 The steering rack bushings are definitely different ( http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7206 ), and a front 280 sway bar is thicker than a 240 swaybar. I am not sure about the others, but having taken apart many of both, I think the rest of the bushings are interchangeable. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15270-energy-suspension-hyperflex-master-kit/#findComment-116289 Share on other sites
March 11, 200520 yr Author comment_116297 Roger that! I will just buy what does not come in the kit.....ie, rear sway bar set, diff and trany.....I am hoping this will not only give me a better, stiffer ride but also take out some of road noise.......the 35 year old rubber has given up!!!! March 11, 200520 yr comment_116312 Do you have a 240Z? If so, depending on how old it is, you may not need any PU for the transmission, just a new OEM mount. I don't think there is a PU mount for the early trans mount. Will? Have you found one that I don't know about? Not sure I would expect much reduction in road noise, uinless your car currently has no rubber left in the suspension at all. The PU tightens things up, but being less compliant, it didn't do anything to reduce noise in my car. March 11, 200520 yr comment_116315 The urethane will probably add more noise than it removes. It is not a compliant material, and that means it conducts mechanical energy(noise does qualify as mechanical energy). No Carl, I have no suprises for you! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15270-energy-suspension-hyperflex-master-kit/#findComment-116315 Share on other sites
March 12, 200520 yr Author comment_116349 Carl, It is the 70-240 I resurrected last month............most of the bushings are original.I want to do all I can while I have the suspension down. Any other bushing suggestions? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15270-energy-suspension-hyperflex-master-kit/#findComment-116349 Share on other sites
March 12, 200520 yr comment_116354 No other suggestion, but with a 70, there will be no transmission PU to purchase (unless something is out there that I don't know about) as your car has the early style trans mount like my early 72. I think it was lat 72 or early 73 when they improved the trans mount. There is a PU kit for that later style mount only AFAIK. March 13, 200520 yr comment_116532 On the transmission mounts, I have a 10/71 72Carl, I put a 5 speed in, refresh my memory, I believe that the sides of the mount that attach to the body have bushings (the round ones)...but the middle mount is kinda fused to the bracket....if just the outer bushings were replaced, would the shifter 'vibrate' more, like at idle, so you would want to use plain ol' rubber for the tranny mounts?Just wondering cause I didn't replace any of those bushings when I put my 5 speed in...my original mount had much better rubber so I used that instead of the one that came with the 5 speed.I was thinking I'm going to put the camber adjusters in (at the lower arms attach to body) and use poly bushings on those and the torsion bars... already have the susp. techniques front and rear sway bar--which make my 240 handle like a go cart!
