ENERGY SUSPENSION HYPERFLEX Master KIT ?

Recommended Posts

On the transmission mounts, I have a 10/71 72

Carl, I put a 5 speed in, refresh my memory, I believe that the sides of the mount that attach to the body have bushings (the round ones)...but the middle mount is kinda fused to the bracket....if just the outer bushings were replaced, would the shifter 'vibrate' more, like at idle, so you would want to use plain ol' rubber for the tranny mounts?

Just wondering cause I didn't replace any of those bushings when I put my 5 speed in...my original mount had much better rubber so I used that instead of the one that came with the 5 speed.

I was thinking I'm going to put the camber adjusters in (at the lower arms attach to body) and use poly bushings on those and the torsion bars... already have the susp. techniques front and rear sway bar--which make my 240 handle like a go cart!

My 11/71 (1972) does not have that style of mount. You (is seems to me) are describing the later style of trans mount that DOES have PU bushing kits available. I don't think the middle mount is fused to the bracket on this style. Nissan and MSA sell a part for this "middle mount". AFAIK, (I'm going on memory, since I haven't owned a 73 for 20 years) the middle mount is attached to the "mount" just like it is to the early mount piece, with a stud and nut.

I've attached a pic of the early mount (I've seen this on my 1971 (mfg 3/71) and 1972 (mfg 11/71) Z cars. The drawing is from the Vic Brit catalog and I've only seen this on my 1973 (mfg 3/73). They list it for 70-78, but that is IMO wrong, as I said, I've never seen that type on any 240Z other than a 1973.

EDIT: PU will transmit noise/vibration more than rubber, but if the drivetrain is in good condition, I don't think it would be a major issue. (I had more vibration transmitted into the cabin due to the shifter bushings being in poor condition, which was an issue)

Interesting, didn't know the mount for the early z was like that...it is much simpler in design....I have the VB picture type...which is what it must be on most 72s through 78, cause the 78 5 speed I purchased had the same mount. My Z is a 10/71 so it must've just been converted around that time.

Thanks Carl!

My transmission tunnel is just as pretty as Carl's.

That is a picture that Steve (Zvoiture) posted here a couple of years ago from one of his parts cars. My car has the same 'type" of mount (minus the rust).

I have a California "rust free" car, don't you know. LOL (That's why I had to POR15 my floorpans 2 summers ago) :stupid:

Does anyone have a drawing of bean dips spindle puller?

I can fabricate one for the Florida Z's to use.

Thanks for the info guy's once again you all have been a great help.........

I realize you are probably kidding, but why not just weld all of the suspension components together, you don't need the compliance of springs  ! Swaybars are for sissies  ! Shocks just add to the spring weight-those are for pansies anyway  ! Then you need to ad some Dubs with a rubberband around them for wheels and tires-no need for air pressure-just more sissie cushioning  ! Make it a true ridgid assembly, cushioning if for wee girls :finger: ! Real men need to have their teeth chip every time they roll over a dime, and if the tires slip, it must be because all of the fiberglass, kevlar, and carbon fiber we added made the engine put out another 200HP :stupid: !

I'm thinking of having my bushings machined out of stainless. I want good, firm handling not that sloppy factory handling. They'll be painted safety orange for extra visibility at night.

I knew it! You ARE a dentist (or married to one). Make a few extra sets of bushings. Lots of people on eBay are waiting for this upgrade. LOL
