Posted March 12, 200520 yr comment_116472 There is one on ebay with more miles than mine right now for $450 starting bid. Is it worth that much? Is their a demand for this engine/trans?I'm just wondering because i never thought that the original setup would fetch any money. If it does i may be closer to a motor swap than i thought. What do you guys think? March 13, 200520 yr comment_116485 Three years ago I bought a L24 (w/ High Compression E88 Head), 4-speed Transmission, R-180 3.36 Differential, Driveshaft and Halfshafts, a complete Front and Rear Suspension (all had approx.70,000 miles, and a new (Rebuilt Starter) for $250.00There is not much of a market for a used L24.At $450, I think it is more than a little overpriced. I've been sliding this engine around the garage for 5 years now....holding off pulling the rods out in case someone shows up needing a good 240 motor. With all the 280 engines floating around, not much market for a stock 240...other then a cheap alternative to blown engine.david Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15280-what-is-an-original-82k-l24-motortranny-worth/#findComment-116517 Share on other sites
March 13, 200520 yr comment_116530 As long as the L24 isn't a 73 model year, the head is worth something...the rest isn't. The E88 head is pretty good head because they're in limited supply and still used in a good motor at times. (as you say, NOT on a 73 motor) If the engine is not in a car (so you can confirm by the serial number on the block and data plate what year engine it is) there is no way to determine which type of E88 head is on the block unless you remove the head and examine the combustion chamber configuration.
