I am fed up...

I am FED UP with the dual point mallory, as I am sure that this is the reason for the erratic stumbling on acceleration, this motor will free rev ( I know nono :finger: ) all day long and then under a load will occasionally seem like a rev limiter has suddenly stepped into the picture.

Anyone that has suggestions please lemme know, I drove the car this morning to work and like usual, the problem is gone and the car has GREAT pull and power all the way up. I even beat a fiat off the line. Kidding. But you wait, lunch will come and the car will hesitate again...

At any rate, anyone have any suggestions regarding dizzys? I want to ofcourse get away from the points, so those of you out there that have a great set up, please suggest.

By the way this is the '74 below...

Have a great day and thanks for the .03 cents! :classic:

Long time no talk to!!

This dizzy is not vac'd, it's weighted, and I am suspicious of that...

But I hate the fact that the stoopid ballast is still there and I am sure that it is an elec. issue...

Suggestions? Other that putting it on a dizzy scope, which I am considering, I just HATE paying someone else to tell me what is wrong with the damn thing. It does feel like the advance is dropping off or there is a crossfire...

:dead: to the ballast.

that's how I feel.

Is this a common um, upgrade? And if so, did you have ballast before?

Any idea where I can find some information on this?

Thankyousir.

And tomohawk, I can't even find the damn "cents sign" on the keyboard.

So, I have no cents.

Or is it sense....

hmmm.

I don't know if it is common. I had a crane XR600 optical/electronic ignition (kit number from memory here) kit that they sell for the stock distributor and an old mallory dual point mechanical advance distributor. I like the larger mallory cap, taller distributor and adjustable mech. advance. No brainer for me to marry the two instead of going out and spending more money on stuff.

I just removed everything off the plate inside the mallory that the points screw down on, mounted the mallory optical trigger from one of their XR kits on it. Took the Crane 6 slotted optical interrupter plate meant for the 240Z distributor and dremeled it out a little so it fit on the bigger mallory distributor shaft. They don't make a 6 slotted interruptor plate for the mallory. Align and time as described in Cranes instructions on their web site.

Anyways, seriously, I would consider a 1980-81 280zx stock distributor, you can get a new one from MSA with the electronic box on the side of it (its built in) (I think they're new, maybe reman)...anyways, I'm going to be getting one, its a simple bolt on, get a better coil, and you have the reliability of the nissan distributor to boot!

Just my $.02 dollars.

forgot to say, they sell the new ZX electronic dist for $300 approx (at MSA), so its a pretty good deal IMO to go from my crappy worn out dist to a nice electronic...i'm going to do this in May, I have a worn out dist shaft, so its going to make a big diff in my Z. The unilite electronic dist is over $600, I wonder how much better is it than the ZX distributor? Anyone know post please!

Peace out, have a zed-ful day
