Posted May 2, 200222 yr comment_6579 I have spent the last few months redoing the head on my 73 240, but since its been so long, I have forgotten where all of the ignition wire/coil wiring goes(spark plugs wires are OK). I don't have immediate access to view the inside of another and I've already connected a wrong wire once to the outside of the distributor and burned it! so I'm a little gun-shy. The haynes manual diagram is iffy at best...what I could really use is an actual photo to that area. If anyone has a link to such a photo, I would be eternally grateful...TIARich Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1540-ignition-wiring/ Share on other sites
May 2, 200222 yr comment_6584 RichThe negative lead on the coil goes to the distrib. Its black on my 72. The positive on the coil goes to the ballast resistor. There is another wire thats in the loom of the distributor and that goes to the water temp (I think, going off memory here) sending unit.Hope this helps,Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1540-ignition-wiring/#findComment-6584 Share on other sites
May 3, 200222 yr comment_6612 Yep, you're right. The extra wire is probably for the temp sending unit. It's located just underneath the housing for the thermostat. = Very close to the distributor. So, they ran the wires in the same pack. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1540-ignition-wiring/#findComment-6612 Share on other sites
