Hi all,

I decided to put together a little piece about how the photo gallery works. Please feel free to reply to this message if you have observations and or comments.

The gallery is set up like this:

Situation 1) User uploads a photo without a category, the photo will be listed in their root-level gallery only.

Situation 2) User uploads a photo into a category (body & paint for instance), the photo will be listed in the body & paint category as well as their root-level gallery.

Situation 3) User creates a private album and uploads photos into that album. The photo is only listed in that album and NOT the root-level gallery.

Moderator Action 1) Moderator moves a picture from a users root-level gallery to a category. The picture will be listed in the new category as well as the users root-level gallery.

Moderator Action 2) Moderator moves a picture from a users Album to a category. The picture will be listed in the new category and it will no longer show up in the Album.... It will now be listed in the users root-level gallery.

Anyway, I believe that we can move all images from root-level galleries into categories and they will still show up in the users root-level gallery AND the category. But, if the picture is moved from an Album.... it will no longer appear in that album.

I also just added a feature so that people can pick multiple categories to list their new photos. This will help with this issue.... I hope.

Is it necessary or manditory for pictures that are in an album to be moved into a "root gallery"? Can't they be retained in their "albums?

I made albums so that I can navigate through less pages of thumbnails when in my gallery. It is more convenient and easier to scan through, than having all of my pictures, of all subjects mishmashed together in one large "gallery".

We won't be moving photos into categories if they are in albums. For some reason, this will move the photo OUT of your album and into your root-level gallery (as well as putting it into the new category).

Sorry I didn't catch this at first. But, most people upload photos into NO CATEGORY and the photos are difficult to find. If you want to organize your own Albums, we won't mess with those.

I just enabled the ability to upload photos into your own album as well as another category. Can you test this for me?

I know. The difficulty in finding uncatagorized images (or looking though stuff I'm not interested in just to find the one I am interested in) is the major thing that keeps me from browsing some member galleries. On a Dial Up, it can burn through a lot of time, with little reward.

Do you mean upload into a personal album and , say, Engine & Drivetrain?

I'll try, but last time I checked, I couldn't even upload into a Personal album.

Yea, I need some help testing the uploads into multiple categories. For instance, see if you can upload a picture of an engine into your personal album as well as the Engine & Drivetrain category.

I tried it and it worked... but, my account is set up to allow access to everything. I want to make sure that other accounts can do it as well. I just noticed that Pete is having some difficulty uploading images... the image links are broken? Hmm....

Ok, I just approved your image. It does show up in both areas, but, the block on our front page shows two separate uploads were made. The thumbnail for the 2nd category is missing (on the front page). Thanks for helping... I'm looking into the problem.
