I just installed some retractable belts in my 72 z. You can not use a retractable lap belt out of any other z except maybe a 2+2. The floor well is to small for 260/280 lap belts.

The way to do it is get a set of 280 belts and drill out the rivet that connects the shoulder belt to the clip. Then you have a 72 lap belt with a 280 retractable shoulder harness. Bolt them together with a grade 8 bolt and you are good to go.

i was under the impression that the '3 point retractables' out of 73 are a direct bolt in, with no mods...that's what I'm looking for. I'll just keep the non retrac 72 laps until I find the 73s.

You're right, You CAN use a seat belt set from a 1973 240Z in a 1972 240Z. It will fit in the pocket with absolutely no problem. No mods required.

I'm not sure if 1974 belts would fit the pocket.

That's why I am willing to sell them, as they won't fit in my '73 pockets. They do require bigger pockets, so that's why I didn't use them. I have come to grips with fact that I can't use 3 point retracts without a great deal of work...
