L20a Rods

I am trying to locate a set of 6 L20a or L14 rods. Yes, I have searched this forum as well as the internet.

Does anyone have the Part #'s?

In what engine/car were these rods availble?

Are they available in the US?

Can I order them from Nissan or get new OEM's anywhere?

You are in luck. I searched the internet long and hard for several months looking for these. I was able to get a second set of the L14 rods. I also have a set of 89mm Kameari pistons designed for use with the rods and LD crank for the stroker setup if you are interested. I was going to use these until I found a forged set that used the L20A rods. Let me know. Later eric

Were/who makes the forged set that uses the L20A rods? Here in NZ there are a number of the L20A engines but finding L14 rods is like finding the golden goose. I already the the LD crank - just need to sort rods and pistons - I was thinking about the L14 rods Kameari path or the Kameari rod and piston.

have you worked out the piston height and comp ratio with that setup? im using L14 rods with the standard L28 crank and we had to shave the pistons to stop them hitting the cylinder head....

though that was with KA24 pistons. maybe the ones your using are ok. better look into it before your fork out for L14 rods

yeah, the L14 was always a desirable rod to use for strokers, but what is the fascination with the L20A rod?

The L20B (four cylinder) rod is a TOTALLY different animal than the L20A (Six Cylinder).

The L20B rod is used in non-stroked L28 builds for better rod angle with custom pistons.

But why do you want the L20A rod?

I have been trying to gather some L20B rods, and since they only came in four cylinders, that means some badly mismatched rod weights and a lot fo grinding to make the scale happy!

yeah the L14 rod was used in a derivative of the 510. with... a 1400CC L engine. Japan only i beleive. well we sure as hell didnt see them in Aus so i doubt you go them in NZ.

i beleive Alan T in the UK has a set.....

The Kameari pistons I picked up second hand from Pitroad Engine. The second set the wife found for me while she was visiting family in Japan. There is a local carshop that was really big into Z's and Hakosuka's years ago. I still get some parts from them as they come across them from time to time. Kameari still makes new pistons, rods and stroker kits. They probably have the most kick arse timing set out on the market right now as well. They are big money though. Anyway I got the second set of rods because of the difficulty in finding the first set. Now I want to use the L20a rods due to the piston that I am using. So if you need L14 rods I got them. If you need L14 rods w/ pistons for a stroker well I got them as well. Later eric

what is the fascination with the L20A rod?

High Compression 3.0L

- L28 Block +3mm Overbore

- L28 Crank

- L20A Rods (135mm)

- 89mm KA24E Piston Flycut .6mm

- 1mm Felpro/HKS Head Gasket

- N42 Head

3.0L (2949cc), 10.73:1 Compression with N42/N47 Head (9.26:1 w/P90), .030 Deck Height. The long rods also gives better rod/stroke ratio.

Or skip the Flycut and use a 2mm Head Gasket to get 10.29:1 compression with N42/47 head and .630 Deck Height

----------------------------------------------------

My idea with the L14 was as follows;

High Compression, High RPM 2.8L

- L28 Block +3mm Overbore

- L24 Crank

- KA24E Flat-top Pistons

- L14 Rods

- N42 Head

- 1mm Felpro/HKS Head Gasket

2.8L (2751cc), 10.02:1 Compression with N42/47 Head (8.66:1 w/P90), .020 Deck Height. Nice high reving motor and much better rod/storke ratio.

I bought one in Japan before I left back in 1998. Let me dig it up and I'll give you the part number. My Japanese friends that I talked to there said the same thing thats how they build there strokers. However, the L engine builders I talked to in the states said I was crazy and that wouldn't work.

Well I'm glad I still have it.

How's that?

Well, seeing that my brother lives in Tokyo (Yokota AFB), and looking at the S30's I saw when I visited, I think i'll listen to them before some redneck. Most simply would not beleive the the things (and cars) I saw there. :)
