Noobie Introduces Himself

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Kevin. I have a problem. I'm addicted to cars (and bikes). I've got a long list of sports/performance cars and bikes that I have had the privelige of owning and modifying. I think it all started around the time I first saw the Dukes of Hazzard (or was it Smokey and the Bandit?). I was around 8 years old when I first started drawing pictures of cars (I'm 32 now). Not just any cars, but cool cars. This is when the obsession started to take hold.

For a while, spending my allowance on Matchbox and Hot Wheels seemed to help. When I was around 12, I subscribed to VW & Porsche, Car & Driver, and the other popular car mags of the time. Then at 15, I got my first motorcycle, a Kawasaki KX80. From that point on, there was no turning back. I got that dirtbike taken away for getting caught by the highway patrol riding it on the road to see my high school sweetheart. Then came my drivers liscense. My first car was a 76 ford Maverick with a 302. Then a Cordoba with full power and leather and a 340. Then, an old school Subaru turbo, old school Jetta, Eclipse turbo, 97 ZX6R, 94 3000gt VR4 twin turbo, 02 Civic Si hatch. Now I drive a very modded 01 S 2000. This is by far my favorite. Its posses unmatched handling for anything under 100 grand (well, besides the Elise). The 3000 GT is probably second and the fastest (around 450 hp). Because of my obsession, none of these cars remained stock for very long. Most had suspension and wheels before the 30 day tag came off.

This brings me all the way to today. I've decided to have my first "second" car. This is going to be my real project car. You know what I'm talking about. The one you're gonna strip down and restore. The one you're going to build. I'm probably like a lot of you. I've always done all my work myself, in my garage, at night or on the weekends.

My neighbor is selling me a 75 280Z. You know the deal, he's got a new baby, no extra garage space, a wife that's a little bit naggy about "that old car", etc. Me, I've got two kids, plenty of garage space, and a wife who likes cars about half as much as I do (which is more than a lot of hardcore enthusiasts). She's the one I was riding my dirtbike to see when I was 15.

So here it is...BTW, its not me in the picture (that's my neighbor, the former owner). Stay tuned for the full Fairlady Z old school madness sure to follow...

Thanks for listening.
