Posted April 1, 200520 yr comment_119085 :tapemouth :tapemouth went to go to Eddie Radatz's today, he helped me adjust the valves hot finally! car ran smoother after that. but i finally asked him what that wierd noise was. sounds like its coming from the first valve, right under the timing cover. well, it only hits right at 1700RPM, nothing more, nothing less.i started the engine, reved it, and he knew instantly. its the timing chain hitting the guide.the drivers side is loose. how the heck did this happen? its got a whole new timing set on it, the guides are solid in place, whats up!?!?i really dont want to take the oil pan, the PULLEY, and front cover off. i just want to go ONE month driving this thing without someing going wrong!! heheheh Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15513-timing-chain-slap/ Share on other sites
April 2, 200520 yr comment_119235 I suspect you forgot to use locktite on those bolts that hold the guides to the block?Practice makes perfect! Do it before it comes loose and causes lotsa damage. Good luck. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15513-timing-chain-slap/#findComment-119235 Share on other sites

April 3, 200520 yr comment_119352 Kind of off subject but, when using lock-tight do the threads have to be de-greased? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15513-timing-chain-slap/#findComment-119352 Share on other sites
April 4, 200520 yr comment_119368 Kind of off subject but, when using lock-tight do the threads have to be de-greased?I haven't read the directions on the package lately (printing is too small for old eyes) but my recollection and standard procedure is to clean & degrease any fastner that needs a threadlocker, or other coating (like oil) applied to it.IMO that's just good workmanship practice. Dirt & Crud = BAD, Clean = GOOD. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15513-timing-chain-slap/#findComment-119368 Share on other sites
