Compare,

205/40 - 17 size tyres

to

205/50 - 17 size tyres,

What is the difference in the actual tyre size???

Is the "50" just taller? or is it wider aswell?

I've checked out tyre calculator sites but didnt understand what most of the measurements meant, so i though i'd ask you guys

The first number is the width in mm. ie 205mm wide.

The second number is the profile, measured as the % of the width.

ie. 40 = 0.4 * 205 = 82mm

and 50 = 0.5 * 205 = 102.5mm

But you shouldn't be putting 17s on your Z anyway... :finger:

I prefer 14-15" diameter wheels with a more negative offset. I think I can speak for Lachlan on this as we prefer big dish over big diameter. Plus, it is more period correct and very aggressive. This is just my opinion so please take no offense to it. Do you have 17"s on your Z?

That is one drawback with smaller wheels, no big brakes. Take care and good luck with that. What kind of brakes are you planning to install? One of the popular things here in the states is Porsche brakes. I assume that they are excellent brakes, but I have seen three Z's with the calipers that still say "Porsche" on them. I think it is a little odd. I have a friend that has 16" wheels with BNR32 brakes on his Z. I am a little old school and would prefer the MK63 brakes if I had a choice, but with my around town driving, the stock ones do just fine.

Not 100% certain about what im going to do with the rears,

But im annoying the kind folk at DBA australia and trying to get them to track down discs that are vented, 300mm or larger, can be bought un-drilled and have as close as possible dimensions (overall thickness and centre diameter) to the original Z stock disc rotors,

Then hopefully i can get them at a reasonable price (or maybe not...........i called up Repco and they told me i could get some Ford AU111 Xr8 325mm by 32mm rotors for a mear $800 for the front pair, they started off at $900, but i guess i must have sound pretty unimpressed with that :)

Then get the calipers that these rotors have clamping on them from the factory, i figure 300mm rotors are more than likely to have some pretty decent calipers attached to them,

Everything will come down to price though, this is the plan at the moment, but i will have to wait untill DBA get back to me and i start doing the ring-around for prices
