I tried jumping the power window motor with a fused wire from the battery to both up/down wires going to it but no go. It's just 2 wires so should I ground one and put hot to the other? I have power going in/out of the switch so I'm stuck here. It's for a Z32 I just bought to drive while I do more work on the 1977. Thanks

I don't have the schematics for a z32 of any year so I can't cite specifics. However, the motor is either grounded through the case and then each wire is to provide power in ONE direction, opposite from the other. Or the wires are, as you said, one positive one negative with the switch acting as an inverter.

Lastly, if the motor is out of the door, see if you can rotate by hand. If the motor is seized, no amount of electricity is going to free it up to operate your window. Also, the problem COULD be in the window mechanism and not the motor.

Each wire provides power in one direction .Should I be able to just connect a jumper to either wire and get power to It ? Unfortunately on th 32 the panel only comes off with the window down and of course mine is up ,so I think 2 boxes of band aids should do it.Thanks for your help. (the 77 comes out tomoorrow!)

With that being the case (one wire per direction) then by "standard" troubleshooting by providing juice to either wire should actuate the motor (the case being what's grounding the circuit).

Again, I caution in that without a schematic, and prior experience of working on the 32, all I can suggest are "ballpark" procedures.

Thanks for your help. I'll pull it out and test it in case it's stuck . The Z32's are nice cars but I still prefer my old 77Z.

Having had A LOT of trouble with the P/W motors in my Z31, and a Ford explorer, I can speak from some exp. Each wire will operate the motor in either the up or down direction. You probably won't be able to turn the motor by hand (if it's out of the door) as they usually have worm gears in them that can't turn by hand. There is good news tho. If the motor is out of the door, without any window load on it, a fresh 9v transistor battery will run it, providing the motor is not seized. Just reverse the wires on the battery terminals to go in the opposite direction.

The motors still in the door . On the z32 I can't (as far as I know) remove the door panel with the window up and cannot access the regulator bolts. If you know of any way to lower the window without power let me know.I can't get the motor disconnected from the regulator inside the door. Running out of band aids ,Thanks.

I can't help with getting the window down/motor out, but something I've found in all of the window motors I've had to work on is that they have small circut breakers in them, really just a bimetal strip that opens when the motor is stalled such as in the full up or full down position, to keep from burning the motor up. These tend to get tired after thousands of cycles and just stay open, hence no power to the motor. Being cheap, I've found that you can take it apart and solder these breakers closed alowing years of service, just pay attention when opening/closeing the window and get your finger off the button when it reaches the end travel point. I fixed the drivers window in my Jimmy this way 5 years ago and it still runs fine and gets used daily.
