April 10, 200519 yr comment_120057 Let it run at idle for awhile so it will burn off the moisture Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15593-possible-wet-cap/#findComment-120057 Share on other sites
April 10, 200519 yr comment_120061 you can also spray some WD40 inside the cap and then wipe it off. It will displace the water. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15593-possible-wet-cap/#findComment-120061 Share on other sites
April 10, 200519 yr comment_120062 I looked at your public profile and it states that your car is a 75 280. Now, if you have throughly soaked all of the electronic components of the fuel injection system you should probably disconnect all of the electrical connections and blow them dry. Some type of anti corrosion compound should also be applied at this time. April 10, 200519 yr Author comment_120071 ok, ive let teh car run for abotu 10-20 minutes yesterday so this isnt it. I cannot detect any mosture inside teh cap either. Is it possible for the little thing that sits in the cap that spins aroudn to not be seated correctly? April 10, 200519 yr comment_120073 It's possible, but should be obvious if it is seated wrong. Since you have a 280Z (EFI?) I'd look for moisture in other connectors. You may not be able to "see" it, but it could still be there. Wipe connectors well and spray some WD40 on them to displace any moisture that you can't see. April 10, 200519 yr Author comment_120077 but what is it thast causing teh car to "bog down" at high RPM's? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15593-possible-wet-cap/#findComment-120077 Share on other sites
April 10, 200519 yr comment_120079 but what is it thast causing teh car to "bog down" at high RPM's?That sounds more like a fuel-related problem to me. Not enough pressure? April 10, 200519 yr Author comment_120090 not vacuum related? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15593-possible-wet-cap/#findComment-120090 Share on other sites
April 11, 200519 yr comment_120097 If you used an engine degreaser (like GUNK), it's possible that it may be more than just moisture. Degreaser products like GUNK can leave a residue that will easily conduct electicity. Like Carl says, wipe down the dist. cap, plug wires, and any other wiring of the ignition circuit with some WD-40 to eliminate any possibilities that an electrical charge charge is not "jumping" at the higher RPMs. I've seen bad plug wires act perfectly normal at idle, only to short circuit at higher RPMs. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15593-possible-wet-cap/#findComment-120097 Share on other sites
April 12, 200519 yr comment_120213 Check your throttle valve switch located on the driver side of the throttle body. If these get wet, rpm will not go above 2500. Simply.... unplug the harness leading to the switch, dry out and you should be good to go.
