possible wet cap!

hey was washign ymengine compartment today and got the distibuter cap wet.. i dryed it off, i hope and the car started normally, however it will not rev up past 26oo rpm. if im in nuetral and step on the gass it kinda boggs out around this limit....whast the deal? or do i have a vacuum leak

I looked at your public profile and it states that your car is a 75 280. Now, if you have throughly soaked all of the electronic components of the fuel injection system you should probably disconnect all of the electrical connections and blow them dry. Some type of anti corrosion compound should also be applied at this time.

ok, ive let teh car run for abotu 10-20 minutes yesterday so this isnt it. I cannot detect any mosture inside teh cap either. Is it possible for the little thing that sits in the cap that spins aroudn to not be seated correctly?

It's possible, but should be obvious if it is seated wrong. Since you have a 280Z (EFI?) I'd look for moisture in other connectors. You may not be able to "see" it, but it could still be there. Wipe connectors well and spray some WD40 on them to displace any moisture that you can't see.

If you used an engine degreaser (like GUNK), it's possible that it may be more than just moisture. Degreaser products like GUNK can leave a residue that will easily conduct electicity. Like Carl says, wipe down the dist. cap, plug wires, and any other wiring of the ignition circuit with some WD-40 to eliminate any possibilities that an electrical charge charge is not "jumping" at the higher RPMs. I've seen bad plug wires act perfectly normal at idle, only to short circuit at higher RPMs.

Check your throttle valve switch located on the driver side of the throttle body. If these get wet, rpm will not go above 2500. Simply.... unplug the harness leading to the switch, dry out and you should be good to go.
