2 weeks ago my driveshaft dropped on the highway when I down shifted to take an off ramp. I took it to a mechanic who put a new U-joint in. When I went to pick it up he told me it still needs a transmission mount and differential mount -to go find them on the internet and he would put them on. So I have read through the drivetrain threads and am guessing that my tranny is prob a R-180 (I have a '73 240z with 4 spd). I have found threads that discuss the diff mount and clunking which my car is definetly doing now but do not see a transmission mount. Is this the moustache bar used on R-200's?

Any help on part names or where to buy ?

R180 is the Diff, not the Trans.

Sometimes (like in the FSM) the Trans mount is called a Rear Engine Mount, most other places will call it a Transmission Mount.

Couple months ago on the track, while going through the gears hard, noticed extreme hard hitting drive train. (Okay, so I get over excited and shift too hard.) But after lifting the car and pushing up on the rear of the trans. I found a softened and broken trans. mount. This is what you can do to check the mount. It has rubber insulator built into it for vibration dampening, oil and age will weaken the mount and will let the rear of the trans move too much. It is about a 15 to 20 min. change out with the car up while you support the rear of the trans with a jack and bolt in a new unit.

I think Victoria British had a much better price than MSA? but MSA was closer to me. Be careful getting under the car, use good jackstands, but you should be able to make the change.

The "mounts" (Trans and Diff) that I got from MSA were Nissan OEM, I wonder if VB supplies the same, or ships aftermarket junk?

Don't know, but as often as I run the car, don't let oil leak, never in the water or rain, should last a life time. Looked like the original, but it workin now.

Did anyone see the episode of Mythbusters where they intentionally made this happen into a strategically placed pothole?

I watched the one where they tried to rip the rear end off a police car. Failed but had a good go at it!
