Is this what you're talking about? If so, you likely won't find one on ebay, unless you have a 70-71 & they're on there all of the time.

Choke Knob

I have a spare...it's missing the tiny screw though, send me an email with your address....

In the fullness of time you'll likely find all varieties of Z Choke knob on eBay.

When replacing my original choke knob with a new one, I had to do a little custom fitting to have go on without loading the plastic knob and I also made a little recess in the steel lever for the knob set-screw to seat in. I did this to avoid over tightening the tiny set-screw and cracking the new plastic knob. Just one of those little details for longer knob life.

The earlier choke knob is prevalent on Ebay, the one that is compatible for the '72 is not. That is not to say that they have never been sold there, just that for about $10 shipped, who cares about the "fullness of time?"

I'm sure there will be additional replies, but here's the gist of it:

The 70 and 71 (Series I console with the Hand Throttle Option) had the Choke Handle paddle that was slightly offset to the left from the mounting stalk. This was due to the Hand Throttle lever being right next to the Choke Lever. The Hand Throttle Handle was in turn offset to the right.

The Late 71 and up (Series II console) had the one with the paddle centered over the stalk.

If your Series I console did NOT have the Hand Throttle, OR you're not concerned with originality, you could use the later one without problem. (I've also heard that some of the Series I console vehicles were equipped with this handle after they discontinued the Hand Throttle, but I can't verify that.)

AFAIK, the difference between the two is minimal. IIRC, it's in the depth of the insert into the stalk. The set screw's are the same also.

This is the basic information.

Now, if you do a bit of searching on the site, you'll discover a neat (and long) discussion regarding the "roundness" or "squareness" of the paddle as regards to the originality or applicability to different years & series. The points listed therein are of interest to the purists who want the "CORRECT" one for their year / series of car.

I would NEVER buy from this guy again!!! Just a warning to any who need a part and go looking for it on eBay. He falsely advertising items, flat out lies about what he has, refuses to provide better/more pix of the item for clarity, and then refuses to accept returns nor refund anything.

I'm not so sure about that. I have a series I but am missing the set screw so I pulled the one from my '73 parts car thinking it would be an easy fix. The screw from the '73 was a larger diameter than the hole on the series I lever (the metal part that it was thread into).

I had no trouble finding one on eBay for my 72 Z. I think you'd find that Courtesy will charge no less than $6-8 for shipping ANYTHING.
