I want to get away from that dam computer crap and give my z some more ponies without having the efi anyone have any idea's or has anyone done this before . April 12, 200519 yr comment_120321 just pretend it is the same motor...the block is the same, the head will look pretty much the same on the outside as well...might be different shaped ports on the head, but that's about it. If your 73 has points, using the 80zx dist is better, as its electronic, the ignition brain is right on the side of the dist...search this, its everywhere on how to do the dist conversion. All of your stuff will work on that motor. No cutting up of the floor for the 5 speed, the cutting is only if you have a Series I 240z (pre mid 71). It will bolt right in your 73.Good luck! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15620-1980zx-efi-motor-into-73-240z/#findComment-120321 Share on other sites
April 12, 200519 yr Author comment_120324 do I have to use the computer brain from the zx motor im putting in to the 240z to make the electronic distributor work correctly I'll be using the 80zx distributor with an E-12-80 ignition i don't want to use the computor brain to do this can this be done Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15620-1980zx-efi-motor-into-73-240z/#findComment-120324 Share on other sites
April 12, 200519 yr comment_120325 the "computer brain" should only be necessary if you are going to use the EFI from the ZX. In which case you would need the entire Engine management system including all sensors, wiring, etc.If you are just going to used the ZX distributor, the "computer brain" is not needed. April 12, 200519 yr Author comment_120326 Yes I'm going to use the whole 80zx motor & trans put into the 240z & put the triple webers on it so i'de be replacing the EFI on the N42 head & putting on the webers in place of the EFI on the N42 head & using the E-12-80 ignition distributor Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/15620-1980zx-efi-motor-into-73-240z/#findComment-120326 Share on other sites
April 13, 200519 yr comment_120383 The answer is still NO because you aren't going to use the EFI.If you're using carbs, all you need is the 280zx block with head attached...that's it.
