also if this engine doesnt work out would a 280zx turbo engine swap be possible in this car

ok also it need A LOT of parts replaced, ive herad of a nissan catolouge but i cant find anything like it

one more.. the thing is i dont have any info or backround on the car and im curious as to the year i cant post pics yet but i just dont know much about it

Forums Search is you best friend. :)

So is MSA and Victoria British, (they will send you a catalogue for free). :)

4 speed to 5 speed swap is easy.

Yes an L28 Turbo swap will fit too.

Theres lots of informatiion in posts on here about it, just type a few keywords into the search.

Welcome!

I hate to say this, but, make sure the car is structurally sound before doing anything else-don't dump money in what could be only a parts car-where are you, maybe another member could take a look, and occasionally lend a hand!

I agree. The car was in a junkyard for a reason.

1. Need to assess what you have bought yourself into, before spending more money.

Visable rust is only the tip of the iceburg (you will find more), and rust repairs are expensive unless you can do all of the work yourself. In that case rust repair is time consuming

2. Buy a Repair Manual for the car (Haynes, or Chiltons, whatever) so you can learn how to work on cars (this will minimize your mistakes).

3. Start saving money for parts/tools now.

BTW, the 280zx Turbo swap can be done but you'll need more than just the engine to make it happen. Engine management system (sensors, wiring, computer) and some skills to integrate it all into the existing Z car wiring/chassis.

ok first about the year i looked up the numbers hls30-32347 and from what i found i believe its a 71 but im still not sure..

second i know the frame is sound the floors need replaced they are really rusted..

about the 4spd-5spd will i need a new bell housing; will the 5spd clutch fit ?

the reason it was in a junkyard is the previous owner passed and his brother the owner of the yard put it up for sale (he had never heard of a datsun ha )

and as to the 280z turbo swap i have everything with the engine but there is one prob the E.C.U. and ive heard they are prone to be faulty

The 240Z does not have a frame, I would absolutely get someone who is familiar with them to have a look-check my gallery, the orange car looked like it had no real rust problems-once the sound deadening and undercoating were removed, the truth came to light-rail rust was not bad enought for replacement, but had to be patched.

I'm not trying to be negative, but it is easier to inspect thoroughly than to replace sheet metal.

The turbo car uses the same flywheel/clutch assembly as a 2+2, so buy the parts for it if you are ultimately going that route so as not to have to buy another one.

The digital fuel injection in the turbo cars was a real PITA when it started having problems-use something else-Custom EFIs, SDS, Mega squirt, Haltech, etc... to avoid that bite in the arse!

Just to give you an idea of cost . To replace the floors if you do the removal and fitting will run you about $1000.00 by the time you buy the new floors and then have a welder tig weld in the new ones . If the rockers are bad this is really expensive. Sorry to be the bearrer of bad news. Gary

No John,

You may be inexperienced but nobody in this club will ever call you an idiot.

That's because we know that each and every one of us, at one time or another, picked up a spanner or screwdriver for the first time.

You want to learn about Zeds ???????? you've come to the right place mate.

Live and learn.

Welcome to the club.

Rick.

I am certianly not saying you are an idiot. I am saying you gave great taste in cars, great loads of enthusiasm, and passion-all of those are wonderful things that will serve your 240z well, and make even problems more enjoyable! What i am saying is that there are some things that as a person new to the Zcar, you don't yet know how to recognize-and that places you in the unexperienced area that has not been proven to be in the same stratosphere with idiot land. I am trying to save you the frustration of spending all of the time, energy and money that your enthusiasm and passion will push you too on this car-until you know beyond any doubt that your currently chosen car should not have been a source of parts for another one. I am extatic to see a new member with such fervor! I just want to ensure that it continues to grow, and does not get mired in the frustration of a project car that needs too much to be safe and sported around. Your car may not have the problems I suspect. You are new to these wonderfull pieces of mortorized art, all I am advising is get some one more familiar with them to check it out for you before unleashing your addrenalin on fixing it up!

Candy Orange,

Fill in your profile information more in depth---like put where you are, etc...it will be really helpful,...in fact it is not unheard of for a member in your area to private message you asking if you want him to look at it!

A '71 Z is a good rig to consider doing work to! (and the vin makes it sound like a Series II 1971 240z)...

Good luck...and I wouldn't be thinking 5 speed or turbo until you got what you have right now working real well (and assess the rust situation...because if the floors are rusty, plenty of other places are already starting, I can almost guarantee it!) (unfortunately)....but almost all early Zeds have rust, so you have a lot of company.
